1:13:49 I remember this very well. I was 16, and One summer DBZ went from “Goku arriving on Namek”, to the NEXT day, “Raditz arriving on earth”. I was fucking heartbroken (at 16 you don’t know what actually matters yet;) ) This was the infamous “Ocean Group/Dub” to “Funimation Dub” transition. And Funimation is still only a shadow of the OKAY ocean dub. Both studious fucked with the music, dialogue and changed so much to keep it PG for the kiddies. They also had almost ZERO acumen (or maybe time to be fair) to properly translate the true HUMOROUS side of Dragon Ball! So many kids grew up thinking Goku was this noble Virtuous/stoic Superman-like hero figure with a DAD voice. 🤢 When in reality, he has always been a peerless, fighting genius....who is also a Country bumpkin, uncouth, slightly obnoxious, lovable dope. He loves to fight, but he doesn’t get why everyone else is so serious about it all. He ends up putting the planet in danger, not because he’s arrogant (Like the prince) but because he’s so innocently Naive about the state of the world, and of evil, and the nature of the enemies he encounters. It’s not a flaw, it’s just annoying and endearing. Goku is an excellent protagonist because he will genuinely NEVER give up if he is conscious, and he is powerful beyond belief!....but more importantly... He is more KIND than you, or me, or anyone we know. That’s his only flaw. He’s the greatest Fighter that ever existed, AND He is intensely, if naively, kind. Anyway...I’m old & I’ve had a few drinks, sorry for the treatise on Goku.

In terms of Dragon Ball character names, it's not all vegetables. About all main saiyans are named after veggies. Vegeta is vegetables, raditz is radish, kakarrot is carrot. Not a vegetable but Gohan (named after his grandpa Gohan) means rice in Japanese. There's a group of characters named after instruments. They're all connected to king piccolo. His minions are cymbal, piano, and one other I dont remember. Bulma's last name is briefs. Her and Vegeta's son is Trunks, their daughter is Bra. There's the majin characters called Majin Bibidi, Majin Babidi, Majin Buu. King Cold has sons named Freiza and Cooler. I can literally go on lol
