In the context of CITIES2030 a sustainable food system includes:
🌾 food production;
🍽️ sustainable food choices and consumption;
🌱 seasonal organic and locally produced products;
♻️ waste reduction.
Over four years (2020-2024), the CITIES2030 project has brought together food system participants for discussions to promote the use of local products in public catering, especially in schools and kindergartens. ❇ Green public procurement is an effective tool to achieve this goal.
🔷 We are proud of our achievements:
🔹 students have learned about the origins of food;
🔹 the project implementers have successfully gathered all involved parties at the discussion table;
🔹 detailed insights into the Finnish and Estonian educational institutions' experiences in increasing the share of local products in school meals;
🔹 valuable and highly appreciated food procurement practices and knowledge exchange events for municipal procurement specialists have been organized;
🔹 a working group has been established to actively identify necessary changes in regulations regarding food procurement in Latvia.
