Note: AD is not a requirement to use CAC/HSPD-12 with IdM.

Can this be setup without IdM and AD?

Thank you very much for this video. I have a question. You say (at around 3:28 in the video), "The last step is to register the client". My question is: Is it possible to setup IdM such that a person with a CAC can walk into a coffee shop and use a public computer (that has a CAC reader already installed) and go to a website (a website that requires a CAC) and the user can be authenticated and get access to the website? What effort goes into "Registering the client"? You mention a one line command but does that imply that users have to be using a specially configured computer and can't just access the website over the public internet with any computer? Thank you!

Connecting to a CAC-required website is different that Authenticating to the domain. Websites will just need to be able to read your card through the Browser. You can setup the card reading capability through Firefox or Chromium/Chrome.

Great video...IF you have Active Directory. With IDM being such a good product, I was hoping for a way to handle smartcard authentication without having to taint my network with windows products :). Any chance of a video where you do smartcard authentication minus the AD?
