Qatar Sand Man

Күн бұрын

We found some extremely soft sand in the valley at the base of sand dunes in the Qatar desert.
managed to get both vehicles bogged in the same location.
We first self extracted the #Toyota Land Cruiser using a ground anchor and winch, then winched the #Nissan #Xterra to the same place. The sand was extremely soft and steep for 100 Metres in all directions.
The Xterra was still bogged, so we pulled it out and up the incline using a #Bubba Rope.
After a bit of messing about, both vehicles were out.

A good rule of thumb when operating a winch, 30 second bursts. That winch will be red hot and it will burn out with continued use like that. 30 seconds of winching then 30 seconds of cool down & your winch will last a long time.

Thank you for watching, Rules of thumb are useful if you do not have the data to hand. The winch is a Superwinch Talon, 12500SI.It is rated for two minutes continuous use and has a capacity of lifting around twice the weight of the land cruiser. It has a rolling capacity of 42,294 lb, on a 20% gradient. It was also assisted by having the vehicle in drive and the revs up a bit to assist the battery. The winch was cool enough that I could operate the free spool lever with bare hands. We have used this winch in ambient temperatures of 49°C and have carried out around 120 recoveries with this winch.kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJewlYB8rd6bbbM

Very nice although I was more interested in the anchor as I have just purchased one. I will be using a damper with mine to prevent any injury or damage. Safety first 👍

@@bwa00343 The anchor is very useful, I have used it three times when actually stuck. We made another video, which is just a demonstration, probably will put it up in a couple of weeks. I would recommend using a synthetic rope rather than a steel cable, they do not stretch and store energy. I have snapped one and they do not whip the same way as steel. But sure a damper will be safer.

Yes, my rope is synthetic also.

Note..you will always get more torque from the winch the less cable is on the drum..short pulls use snatch block to I increase pulling power.

That anchor set up seems to be the fastest recovery tool on the market from what I can tell. No digging , I like it.

How hard was it to dig out the anchor?
@QatarSandMan

Not too difficult, but it was hot. A few days later we decided to have a practice with it. This time we attached a line to it before we buried it, then winched it out. Video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4rZnJiqhdadpaM

Hi, No, we just find people as we are driving, we are there every Friday and we help anyone we can. Sometimes we get stuck ourselves. Thank you for your interest.

@@QatarSandMan thats amazing, is having a light vehicle gives you more advantage on sand driving like suzuki jimny?

@@yallafpv7865 Suzuki Jimny's perform well on sand, I have only ever recovered one and that had a slipping clutch. The best thing to do regardless of the vehicle is to have your tyres at the right pressure, most of the time we find that 1 Bar is about right. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJfFn2WvrLqioJY

Why are you pulling it at 90deg?
@QatarSandMan
@QatarSandMan 3 жыл бұрын
We had to get the vehicles out of the hollow onto firmer ground. To continue forward would result in pulling into an even softer area with almost vertical sides. The winch is rated at 12,500lb and can easily drag these vehicles sideways if necessary. We often pull vehicles round to the most suitable direction for recovery.
