Cool record and a good reminder to revisit this one. Still in the wants... I wonder how many punks and metal heads have picked this up based on the cover alone.

Ha, good point. Didn't even think of that in terms of the cover

So Ed Askew was not up my alley but I did enjoy your talk about him. I’m in it for the stories Dom. I did get my Acid book unpacked but I read my garage rock tome a whole lot more

I'll take it Steve! thanks as always for tuning in

I picked this up at a record store in Atlanta that had this in their half off box. I wouldn’t even have known about it if I hadn’t seen this video.

Nice, don't think I've even seen it in a shop.

Here's another new one for me; indeed, there is a simple beauty to his sound. And also a strange "otherworldliness". BTW - another album you recommended; i was able to track-down a copy of Michael White's Land of Spirit and Light. Can't wait for it to arrive. Thanks. Shawn

Yes! That's a great one, I need to spin that Michael White again

i'll have to see if he's mentioned in the ESP disk book and how he might have met Stollman. i can definitely see the influence on tallest man-- much more so than Dylan.

Yes would be curious, must have run into Stollman at some point. Groovy times

Good one. I haven’t listened to this in years. I remember he used to have a channel on here talking about his past & whatnot. I have another folkie cued up coming soon for another entry.

Yes and he seems pretty active on youtube and social media too. Definitely a curio

Love the sound of that tiple.

I've had this on my want list for so long that I completely forgot what it sounded like and what it was. So thanks for the reminder!

Nice Jonas. I recommend playing one side and then breaking it up with something else as I said. There is basically no variation in the arrangements. thank!

Hey Dom, great video. I've heard of Ed Askew but never explored further. He sounds pretty good. Almost like a combination of Tom Rapp and in a more modern setting Will Oldham - like the stark poetics on the 1994 Palace album 'Days in the Wake', but maybe a tad less intimate. As an aside, I've been listening a bit to Swedish psych rock group Trad Gras Och Stenar and the various earlier versions Parson Sound, Harvester etc. The musical evolution of this band from minimalist sound art to fully rockin' psych rock is fascinating. The group in its odd way also fits the Syd Barrett theme you did in a recent vid. When performing live in the early days the Floyd would load up on jam freakouts and Trad Gras Och Stenar, who doesn't seem to get mentioned much in the VC, kinda did the same thing!

We must be of one mind Daniel. I have recently just this week thinking about discussing some of those Swedish avant garde psych bands. A small, but fertile scene. I love all that stuff! Though only have a couple of originals. But working on that! Good comparison there to Palace to of Askew. Cheers!

Thanks Dom. A vid on the Swedish psych scene would be way cool. In fact a book titled 'Trad Gras Och Stenar: A collective history' was published recently. I need to check that out. Also sad news about Albini. Still reeling from that. All your recent videos have been first rate. Keep them coming!

certainly an odd duck but what other label would it fit on

Good one. Will have to seek this one out.

Not really psychedelic of course but fits in to the zeitgeist of the 60s for sure. Certainly not for everyone and makes sense for the village folkies.

Thanks Dom. I had heard this album 10-15 years ago, but I have never seen it. At first in the video I thought that he was playing a mandolin, then I thought it was some sort of ukulele, but now I know. - Chris

Hey Chris, definitely reminiscent of those instruments but not familiar with any other artist, in the US at least, playing the tiple.

Wasn't familiar with him, based on the intro clip, he reminds me a bit of a precarnated (?) Will Oldham both physically and musically a bit. Can definitely hear Tallest Man being influenced by him too based on the sample you played.
