Michael, I've been on a digital detox. You might forgive my late late reply... You might not believe me when I tell you it's the Atlantic Ocean!!! The Wild Atlantic can have her calm days too:) Sandycove in the background is an island which does give the illusion that I'm on a lake:)

I almost want to just try this on land while being conscious of my alignment ... help me be a little bit prepared for my first SUP class.

Hello Mona Lisa! Would you believe I've been on a digital detox so I'm only just back online this year... Practicing on land is definitely good preparation. I was pretty floored when I had a student come to me who had never done yoga EVER and I realized her first experience of yoga would be on a paddle board. I'm a gentle teacher who loves to meet my students where they are so we didn't do anything too hard and her favorite part was the "relaxation bit" at the end! Huge success I thought as tapping into our inner peace is my motivation for practicing :)

What do you do with your paddle?

I usually paddle to a bouy and use the leg strap to secure the paddle to the rope on the bouy. The paddle just floats in the water along side. If to have a cheap paddle they can sink!!!! So be careful to tie it well if you're going to try this. Sometimes if it's forecast so stay calm I'll leave my paddle on land... Paddle to a spot lying on my belly like a surfer paddles and I practice paddle free:)

Shinny, that's true! Definitely start out with land yoga and then work your way to SUP. And most importantly, just take your time, have patience, play around with what feels comfortable! No rush on getting into any poses. Just enjoy yourself!
