Hey man, great video! I am currently 7.5 months post acl recon on my right leg. I have returned to non contact training with my team in football however I haven’t done these tests. Is there any signs that I should be aware of that I returned too early?

Hey Ben! Thank you for your message! Perhaps speak to your physio about doing some of these tests just to check where you are at?

Thank you so much for this video. I have done an ACL surgery 14 months ago (Hamstring). I still don't feel comfortable going back to sports because when I extend my leg fully I feel slight pain at the back of my knee and my doctor says it is a normal thing but I have trust issues with my doctor because after doing the surgery he informed me that ACL reconstruction has a 40% of re tearing even after proper physio (which is a very high percentage tbh but i don't believe it) Tomorrow I am going to try these tests and if you have any advice for me please do share. Thank you and subscribed :)

Hi there, I’m currently 9 months post op, ACLR only with hamstring graft. I smashed all these tests like a month ago. All within 95% limb symmetry with the hops being nearly identical. Legs are stronger than ever and I’ve gone from an initial 40% strength deficit in my operated leg in quad and hamstring (iso testing machine) to now within 3-5% deficit. My physio is still recommending I wait until around 15 months to return to sports. Do you think he is being too conservative? Given that 9 months is usually the marker at which ligamatization has mostly taken place. I was thinking more towards the 11-12 month mark especially since I’ve passed these tests and now want to do sports specific training.

Hei. Better wait then regret it later. I tore my acl second time when i was 8.5 months.

Got a tricky question, I actually operated on both of my knees.. ACL in Feb (right knee) then ACL+meniscus in August (left knee). This august would be my 1 year from the last surgery, how do i measure and make sure I’m ready to go back to sports if both of my knees are operated. Since in all of those videos we are comparing the injured knee vs the non injured. Thanks in advance!

Hi Emad, I’m afraid we can’t give medical advice to people across KZbin for a number of reasons. We would have to advise seeing a local Physiotherapist to you who can assess and advise on such matters in your specific case. Wishing you all the best in your journey.

Awesome, ive done similar tests at my physio and failed all of them. Im only training for strength now, since i cant even do single leg rises at all(5 months past physio) and do these tests periodically to track my progress!

what about return to sport with no surgery just physical therapy and conservative treatment?
@ClinicalPhysio

Hi! Similar tests would be useful. I’d also pay attention to strength metrics like being able to single leg press 1.8x body weight on the affected leg as well
