We all need to take the time to shop our stash for making meals before buying more. I rarely make a meal plan but I do keep a fully stocked refrigerator, freezer and pantry. We actually turned an unused guest bedroom into a "grocery store". So on most days, I have what I need and can make good meals.

I grew up in WI - we did the 'Chop Suey" too, but never even called it mock, it was just Chop Suey to us! I had kind of forgotten that one, I might have to introduce my Southern Hubby to it soon! We added the Chinese-style veggies and water chestnuts, and served it over rice with the noodles sprinkled on top.

Love doing pantry clean out weeks! If I have something like the green beans that I have none of I throw them on a sale watch list so when they go on sale I know to pick up on them but am never paying full price! Definitely helps us clear out stuff that’s made it to the bottom of the freezers or forgotten about so helps with having less waste!

It funny you would share this idea tonight because one of my sons suggested we do just that….cook from what we have! I had commented how our grocery bill had gone up and he said “I have an idea. Why don’t we just use up what we have?” Looks like we will be shopping from our pantry. I don’t have much meat in my freezer, though, because I just have the ones on my two refrigerators and they are both small. But we can use what we have and then supplement if need be.
