Acoustic Curtains Absorption and Sound Reducing - Lab Tested to 11db - 5-7 Decibels Real Office Test

In this video we have used our acoustic fabric that is rated as an A absorption fabric lined with our acoustic interlining and blackout backing. It has been tested with double fullness.

This is by no means a scientific test however it does show in the real office environment being used as a partition between spaces.

SOUND ABSORPTION
The Fabric has been tested in a lab to UKAS sound absorption AW to 0.95 providing an A rating for absorption. This means that you get the very best ability to reduce reverberation and stop echo passing around a space.
SOUNDPROOFING / INSULATION
Sound with Vacuum in is 45 decibels +- minus 2
With the curtain closed 36 - 38 decibels
Sound reduction 5 to 7 - 9 decibels fluctuating +- 2
Front on Testing
Sound with Vacuum in is 43 decibels +- minus 2
With the curtain closed 37 decibels
Sound reduction from 6-7 decibels +-2
It is a noticeable difference and means that a loud room becomes functional.
The main benefit is that the curtain absorbs the sound so it doesn't continue to reverberate around the room.
THERMAL BENEFITS
Another benefit is the thermal benefit as the fabric has a 3pass blackout coating it means that it has been sealed. This stops the sound passing through

Can you do this same test using just a normal thick curtain and see how much different your acoustic curtain is compared to the normal one? Thanks.

Thanks for the message. We have moved offices, so i cannot replicate the test with a different material. What i can say is we have tested just the face fabric without the lining which is a 370gms (quite heavy) This tested in the laboratory at 7db without the lining. So adding a normal heavy lining might get to 9db but wouldn't know without the test. A normal thick curtain would be a little less but it always comes down to the weight of the material. This particular fabric with the thick lining and blackout fleece, triple-layer means you get air pockets and density. So it performs well. We have some testing booked soon with some new ranges and will get the uploaded once we have them

Yes This works very well as a room divider and will reduce noise between the 2 spaces.

The curtain will work in this scenario aswell. But it will not give as high a result. As the door is also sound proofing. I cannot say for sure what the reduction would be. (will do a test in the near future) Main thing will be the seals around the door. Again the curtain will improve the acoustic in the recording room aswell.

This has been tested and provides an additional 1-2 db. The reason for this only being so small is mass law and the same materials being used. So although you are doubling the weight the maximum you will get is 3db.

In short. No. we have now tested both flat and pleated there is a marginal impact. So mass law with acoustics double the density will give max 2 to 3 db but in reality as the product gives 11db and 2nd layer does say 13. But net in reality marginal as there are gaps. So what you would need is a dencer material, but then it wont work as a curtain as it is so heavy. You become capped out on application. So you would be better building a structure with a fire door. But then you have the absorption and solid structure issue. So 2 or 3 curtains makes no noticeable difference. Also we manufacture our curtains to your exact size with 2 x fullness so already pleated like the video. We can do with an extra layer of lining of even face fabric 2 linings and another face on the reverse. Giving max 13 to 14 db. But a heavy weight and more cost. So it all comes down to what your trying to achieve and cost benefit. Hope this helps.

Probably... put some distance between the wall and the curtain as well.. like around 5 inches apart from each other

@Carl Klinkenborg that is correct with 10db. That is half the perceived (updated from Carl Klinenborg) sound. But 7 is a true result. If installed with more overlap we could get more. We have now performed more testing and using 2 layers of the lining gives a 12 db reduction in the lab. Really life should be 9 as we find in real life less 3 db. But what is more exciting testing the curtain in the video above with a window on a track in the lab. Not glued around an apertures Gave a 4 db reduction over the top of the window, only small but perceivable. So will help with road noise.

These would help as they are an A rated absorber. So you would see a massive improvement in sound reverberation. It has been tested for eniso test for acoustic absorption to an A rating with 0.95. So this will improve sound passing out of the space. For sound insulation it will help.

Your response is the exact issue with this medium and comment replies around very complex subjects and speculating we are trying to be misleading is simply not true. The product page and associated articles have all our test and information. KZbin is not the place for all this information it is a starting point for our clients to see our product on a basic level. I will point out we do not put all the product information here. It is simply a video of what we have done in the office to showcase the product. We also do not say here what the product will and will not do as it is all room and structure-dependent. Also, i think the video does a very good job of showing improvement, you can still hear the vacum cleaner. This was selected as it was what we had for a quick video until we can get something else produced. In relation to Daniels answer - I would ask for him to contact our company so we can run through his requirements and establish whether it will work for him. We are human and want to talk to ensure people don't waste their money. I have stated what i know the product will do and absorb. ENISO 354 "A" rated absorber and also ENISO 10140-2 11db across frequencies in the lab. As the certificates show the product has little effect at the very low end. but certified to 3db on those sub 250 hz frequencies, very little but perceivable. As a company, we 100 percent agree with you on never to miss sell and miss advertise and we do not miss advertise. Please review the website product pages where are certificates are present for sound insulation and absorption . It is a complex product and expect people to contact and ask questions. For the recording studio and trying to block sound between spaces, then I would probably suggest for best results; 2 layers of acoustic plater board with acoustic mineral fibre in between and also mass loaded vinyl combined with resilient bar to decouple the wall from the frame. However, this would be very expensive and alot of building work. Again this is from working with acoustic engineers, but there may be better ways to do it. Best to speak with an acoustic engineer. So for a low-cost solution to absorb sound and increase the sound insulation somewhat (laboratory shown to 11db) then our product fits these criteria. Again we dont know if it is drums. We are here to offer the best product we can with curtains will give uplift but will never be as good as dense heavy structures. The product is just a curtain and is not a wall.
