Very good lesson. I've been playing guitar since the 1970s, and luckily never needed this info. Until now. That answered all my questions on how to remove the jack especially.

A friend asked if I could restring his guitar. While doing so I noticed that the end jack was very loose, so I thought I'd take a swing at fixing it. The assembly was identical to your repair, so I just followed along (fortunately I had some 1/4" dowels out in the garage), made the necessary adjustments, and ended up with a perfect repair. Very clever fix, thank you very much !

I had exactly the same problem, and once I saw the video, I straight away implemented it, and worked like magic! It was really helpful seeing the assembly and the trick of using the wooden stick (I didn't have a stick that is exactly the same size, so I used a thin one with some PVC tape to make it thicker). You rock, thank you!

Been wanting to do this forever with a loose and rattleling jack socket on my classical guitar. Didn't have a dowel handy but I used a guitar lead and plugged it into the socke, let it loose down to the soundhole like you did with the dowel and it worked perfectly! Thanks a million.
@tenvolt5 ай бұрын
Excellent video. The dowel trick is great as it allows you to not have to take all the strings off, just loosen them. I put the dowel through the outside ring as well so that everything just stayed on the dowel and it was easy to tighten everything by hand, see how it was sitting, remove, push back through, adjust the inside nut, repeat. With my Fender it was a very fine line between having the jack come to the edge of the ring vs. the nut not tightening onto the wood, I had to try a few times and adjust the inside nut one turn at a time until I found the right spot. These jacks are the dumbest design idea ever, at some point I may just add another strap peg just in front of it so that the strap isn't messing with the jack.

I didn't have a wooden stick so I just very gentle guided the input as a far as I could with my hand onto a screw driver through the hole. The best part of the video was seeing the input hardware assembly. Thanks!

Thank you for this. I have a gypsy jazz guitar with a Bigtone pickup that was shipped from Amsterdam. I was getting a noise on C notes on strings 3/4/5. Actually C to D. Three luthiers told me to just play it, all guitars have frequency vibrations. I removed the end pin cover, placed the screwdriver in thread hole, and turned thread & outside nut together a short distance to snug. Vibration and noise are completely gone.

This is an excellent Video, an help me out tremendously. I spent several hours tryin to do it from the inside, the inside nut really backed off and there was a 1/4 inch of play. I did finally get it sucked up, but I knew it was not tight and would only back off again. So I decided to see it KZbin had anything on this, but I wasn't sure how to asked the question.No matter, I found your video right off, and it was dynamite, I went right out the next day and bought a 1/4" dowel and the rest is History...., Thank you so muck for your POST, it was awesome..., WELL DONE

That is clever! I didn't have a 1/4" dowel but I did have a flute cleaning rod and some electrician's tape, so I made my own "guitar-pin-push-stick". Pin is super-tight now, took me all of 5 minutes - what a great and easy fix! I even cheated by just loosening the bottom strings on my guitar bouzouki (yes I play strange instruments). So just slackened them off a way, corrected the pin and then tuned them back up. Next time I change strings I'm always going to check the pin as a second job while I have the strings off.

Good video! Suggestions: (1: The jack should protrude very slightly from the strap nut. This will insure the guitar chord male jack has a proper and secure electrical connection. 2) A tiny (and I mean tiny!) bit of wood glue on all the threads will keep them from coming loose: sort of like LocTite, but less aggressive. Too much glue, however can be almost like a weld!

Brilliant! No more removing strings and trying to reach into the body with hands/arms (which are small, but still way too tight a fit), and messing with tools, sticks, pliers, etc, only to be frustrated. This took me all of two minutes to fix the loose jack on my Cordoba flamenco guitar that I had been fiddling with for at least half an hour trying to figure out how I could get that (damn) back nut tightened, which I guessed was there but had no idea how to get to. With no success, I then resorted to using some rather foul language directed toward Fishman and their #@%^*&!$ jack. Sorry Fishman. We are on speaking terms again. Easy peasy now.

I have a 1980 Flambeau designed by George Lowden for the Rose Morris company. It has served me well for 40 year but now my jack cord seems a bit loose inside the end jack. This end jack connects simply via a 1/8" stereo jack internally and the normal 1/4" external receptacle. The end jack requires no cutting or soldering of cable it is a solid body that is held into the guitar via a knurled surface. Does anyone know where I can purchase one of this quality?

@redwolf08494 жыл бұрын
BTW, this worked great. The only thing I added was a tiny drop of blue Locktite to the threads on the outside nut and strap nut. Be careful Locktite is real thin. I used a toothpick. $1.15 for the dowel and a set of new strings was a steal compared to the repair shop. Thanks.

So I followed the instructions in the video, but when I went tighten up the nut it still slipped, and using the method with the screwdriver, I guess it damaged the threads, so now I can’t get the nut off or the strap nut on, so now I’m dead in the water... any advice?
@tonylapadat39593 жыл бұрын
So, after much effort and patience I was able to retract both nuts by using the wood dowel to stop the whole jack assembly from turning. I would just caution when using the small hole in the jack to stop the assembly from turning, be very careful, as the threads are very delicate and damage easily. Otherwise, this video is a great help!

What if the strap button won’t loosen to come off? Due to whatever...a burr or something.
@ChelleeGuitars5 жыл бұрын
Because the strap button itself is usually just round it isn't usually so tight that it won't come off with a little extra elbow grease. Worst case you'll need to use a pair of pliers or even vise grips to get it to loosen up and you'll damage the finish on the button. Remember, these have a nut on the inside too so if somehow you've managed to glue the strap button on you should still be able to loosen the whole jack out of the nut on the inside (in which case you'll probably have to replace the jack once you get it out).
@danieltan459410 ай бұрын

Clear enough on getting the strap lock and outside nut off and using the 1/4 " dowel but on tightening the "inside" nut you kinda lost me. Is it tightened to something inside on the jack ? Thanks.
@ChelleeGuitars4 жыл бұрын
It's just two nuts, one inside and one out, that are threaded onto the jack. Together they tighten up against the tail block. Guess I should have taken a close up of the jack outside the guitar. It'll make sense when you pull it.
@1rwjwith4 жыл бұрын
Thanks I was having trouble telling where the inside nut should be set since you can't easily tighten it inside the guitar but I think I have it now. Pickup works at least!
