It's very helpful for others, those guys have very tight budget like me. I am planning for 5.1.2 channel Home theater setup in my home and for that will start new construction for a dedicated room very shortly. Room size may be with 16x12 x 9(ceiling). But asking about Acoustic designe , vendors are quoted above 1.5 to 2lakh. Really I don't have that much of budget after room construction & purchased of Home theater. Please guide me if this can be done with 50k to 60k. I am from Kolkata.

Ys u can do the minimal acoustics with tat budget even ur room is a bit larger than mine. Go for custom acoustics panels, I have mentioned the method to build the same in my video. Use panels at walls and also ceiling because false ceiling may cost u higher. For floor u can buy one decent acoustic carpet and place it in front of ur seating position till the front speakers. 👍🏼

@HometheaterEnthusiast
@HometheaterEnthusiast 3 жыл бұрын
This is actually for sound absorption but u will get a decent level of proofing as well, the carpet has been fixed on top of a 1” form underlay. So u will get the sound absorption, proofing and softness while walking. In my case I couldn’t feel disturbance outside the room, Though the Bass management is a little difficult.

You will be able to handle echo by using form but not the bass. Bass management is little tricky and complex. The minimum u can do is proper bass traps. I would suggest a little research on bass management then you can understand some basic problems.

Good to see a diy attempt in making a theater room. Why are you using different speakers for the LCRs, its supposed to be timbre matched (actually all speakers, however LCRs is a must). QAcoustics and SVS are having different sound signatures. A 100gsm is normal furniture grade wool, wont do much than a normal foam panel, for a decent broadband absorption, you need atleast 500-650gsm, 1000gsm is preferred for a decent NR values for 500-3000hz. Also a 4" thickness is minimum to get the above mentioned NR along with an air gap (1:1) for smoother response. SVS ultra is a good sub, however for smooth response across the spectrum you need atleast 2 subs, think about adding one more and more importantly the placement of those subs are very critical for getting the smooth response and fixing the low freq issues of the room. Also from the video, the speaker placements and seating position seems to be way off than the desired specs, its a must to get the enveloping sound without any breaks.
@HometheaterEnthusiast
@HometheaterEnthusiast 3 жыл бұрын
Thank u for ur explanations 😊 Actually i was planning for ultra tower for my front channel, because of budget constraints i just continued with the 3050i. Also I didn’t feel much difference between them, but my old center (klipsch 504c) has noticeable difference. Depends on the brands. Also im concerned about timbre only for music But i love to hear music in stereo so no worries. Regarding the panels, I had lots of space constraints its a very small room tats why went with 2 inch panels. 2 subwoofer is a must as u said i was using 2 before again budget made me to go with 1 ultra 16, but in future I will definitely go for 2. The speaker placement at the back side is a mess I know😀 but it’s mainly because of the shape of the room and space issues 🙁. First of all the room can’t accommodate 11 channels. But the front speakers are almost okey but they are close to the walls, if u see any more issues pls point it out.
@hificonnectin567
@hificonnectin567 3 жыл бұрын
@@HometheaterEnthusiast Its not only about the thickness but also about the density of the polyfoam, 100gsm is furniture grade and wont do much for the frequencies we are targetting, esp a 2" will help only in the high freqs only, like a notch filter or a rolled off treble. To get decent NR value for the mid-highs we need good density like 1000gsm and to make it broadband you need thickness. Also we should not fill the panel completely, it will create uneven dips and to get a smooth response its highly recommended to keep 50% (max) to make a panel efficient. eg, for a 2" panel, you can have 1" material and 1" gap, absorbing efficiency will be same but will smoothout the issues that I mentioned earlier. Timbre matching of the LCRs (all speakers is recommended) as the difference will be very evident in panning sequences eg films like Gravity needs to use same speakers throughout. Moreover, its a myth that a floorstander is best for movie setup, its a misconception. You can get a good capable bookshelf or monitor (MTM) for the same cost, you will get better sound quality too. Regarding the speaker positioning, I was referring not only the rear speakers but also the front LCRs including atmos. There are specific angles and distance between each speakers as per Dolby and THX standards wrt the seating location, a movie is mixed with in mind. 30deg is the most preferred for a wider sound stage. If its not proper, you will feel the break in the continuity or overlapping or crosstalk during panning shots or transitions. From the seating location, the speakers are supposed to be wider than the existing locations, else the seats has to be within that spec by moving forward. Also the center channel seems to be placed lower, even if its angled, it wont give a smooth continuity. Another issue is that the speakers need more space around them and need to be moved more into the room due to the boundary interferences, it affects both the sound quality (creates many dips in the critical audible range) and the soundstage. The room can accommodate 11 channels, not an issue at all. You should have used normal direct speakers for the surrounds than a bipole, the spec also says that. Only in case of a 5.x.x we can use a bipole and in all other cases it should be normal speakers to get a proper directivity which is the key for an immersive surround format.
@HometheaterEnthusiast
@HometheaterEnthusiast 3 жыл бұрын
@@hificonnectin567 Now I understood the issues u r talking about. But the main problem For me was the space constraints, I referred the dolby spec before doing the speaker positioning but unfortunately my room doesn’t allow tat. The front dolby is almost correctly measured the only issue was the width but there were restrictions for me but I adjusted the seating for a single listening position because Im the main listener. Regarding the center channel that was the only possible position since im using a UST projector I can’t go for higher level than this. Otherwise need to keep it outside on a stand that again stopped me because of the space issue.😑 Im not at all a big fan of bipole speakers but I was forced to go with it because of its slim size which is perfectly suitable for my room condition otherwise I can’t even walk by the side of the recliner 😀. The acoustics i did was just an attempt but the information u provided was entirely new for me like making compartments and using some of them for form 👍🏼. I will definitely improve it but needs more details on it. I will check it out.✌️ Also I used a 1000gsm fibre form not 100 I thing u miss understood. Thanks for the information
@hificonnectin567
@hificonnectin567 3 жыл бұрын
@@HometheaterEnthusiast I don't see any limitation in this room to follow the required dolby spec. Also the speakers are supposed to be more into the room for quality sound. Most people fail to do the imp step that the system should be integrated to the room properly, else you are not listening to the speaker's rather the room irrespective of the amount you spend on the equipments. Following are the order in which a theater is designed, starting with the room mode simulations and finding the best seating location and then determine the screen size (THX viewing angle) and the speaker locations based on that location (mode simulation will also help), not the other way around. Once all the basics are followed the room correction software don't have much to do except some mild eq ing. If you see most of the HT videos esp from India including most of the so called pros also end up like this. Since you can diy, learn more and you yourself can fix most of the issues in that room.

It's a good audio gear u have. But for the svs sub I think u need to have some low frequency absorption panels too. The foams ll control only 250-3000hz. Ur svs sub can go below upto 25hz. Very difficult to manage the low frequency bass.. I did make few quadratic absorbers for my theatre in Chennai. Found a hell a lot of difference.

@@HometheaterEnthusiast cool brother. Actually I love ur sub. It brings lot of tonal balance to the main speaker. I learnt stuff from utube only. Just type acoustic fields- the expert name is Dennis Foley. His videos in utube is highly informative, sharp and bold to scold people on what wrong they do with audio set ups. I made few with my carpenters in Chennai in a budget friendly way on quadratic absorbers. Rough calculation not precise but it still brought a lot of low energy absorption. My velodyne goes till 28 only , but still it's a problem to my 18*11*9.5 feet room. The first treatment we should concentrate in our room is low frequency absorption/ attenuation only . Rest of the room modes ll automatically fall in place

@@hificonnectin567 actually activated carbon is available for industrial purposes in large gunny bags ( china supplies to many industries). Its little expensive. Instead I went to a wood shop nearby. They supply burn woods ( broken pieces). It is mainly used for earthing purpose while constructing new house electrical works. We call it karri. We should ask and get small pieces of this burnt woods ( nothing but carbon) or else they ll give powdered form which is of no use. I got 1kg for 40rs. I bought close to 35 kg.. once we make compartment in the absorber we should put it in one of the compartments. Actually we need more kgs.it might look simple but consumes more.
