Every guitarist should choose according their style of playing .. I played both 2 years after I started guitar journey .. then I find myself that I AM BORN FOR FINGERSTYLE + PERCUSSION.. so I switched to Acoustic

Beginner should start with acoustic, electric will be complex and if anyone wants to avoid for pain , then I would say there is a high reward is waiting for you after you conquer the pain
