I appreciate all these tips. I've played drums for years. Thousands of hours on stages. I stopped 15 years ago to make much better money doing something else. And I really miss playing. I also have a real piano I play, and an okay digital stage piano. I prefer the real piano because of the feel. I don't like the feel of the digital piano. Most of that is because of the the way it 'feels'. The touch, dynamics, and response. I'm texting all of this because I want a really killer experience with an electronic drum set that I can play in the house without getting loud, and then maybe I'll get back into playing. But I don't want to be let down because it doesn't feel right, and I end up never playing it and waste $4000. I'm after good dynamics and response. (I used to play all styles, including jazz, r&b, rock, blues, and reggae, and yes, even country... bills are bills and it was all fun!) Cymbals are the toughest to get right. Have the Roland VDrums finally gotten to the point where they feel "right"? Or would you say, 'still, nothing feels like the real thing.'

That open hi hat and snare sound you get on the Wingstop hangry video are outstanding! When I program drums using a MIDI keyboard, it's tricky for me to find open hi hats that really have that "imperfect" sound like real hi hats have. It's a matter of finding the right samples and having them assigned so that different samples are triggered. Your setup is spot on and is very inspirational for those of us who make music using electronic drums.

great vid! I am finally starting drums after years of wanting to and this was great. what electric drum set do you use?

Good comparison.. I've been debating trying e-drums. Drew, what's your opinion of putting triggers on accoustric drums? From what I researched so far.. by the time you buy triggers. and module it does get a bit pricey..

Oh, I didn't know you had a video like this before I commented! Thanks for the video it's very helpful but I would still like an answer about the abilities of an electric drum set and if there are any techniques you can't execute on them or not. I'm mainly interested in creating neo soul, gospel, and lofi tracks. I've seen people on KZbin use a vst called EZ drummer and other programs to alter their drum kit sounds. I'm just learning and would rather have a real kit to record but I have limited space and neighbors. Can I get good lofi drum sounds if I use vsts? Thanks again!

Which sounds better ? E drum vs acoustic ?

With the right combo of software and v drum, you can’t tell the difference.

I have another video idea since you asked. Every time I try and record a drum take to my songs on my e kit I can never get it perfectly aligned, wether it be messing up on the hi hats or a kick hit being slightly out of time. I always have to quantize it afterwards by hand. Do you have to do the same thing, or am I just not nearly as good at drumming as you? I’ve recorded many songs on acoustic drums in the past and have never had this issue
@mitchmcturtle6890 Жыл бұрын
I’ve always felt like it was just an issue with e-kit recording and maybe it’s easier to notice if hits are out of time than on an acoustic, but then I watch you and you don’t seem to be having this problem haha

Acoustic all the way!! If space, practice, noise, etc. is an issue, electronic all the way! The ability to use dynamics, get more sounds, head combos, immediate throw offs, and craftsmanship; acoustic all the way!! If your name is Drew and you can play the heck out of anything, a fisher price or hello kitty kit will do you just fine! ...but, I guess those are technically acoustic as well, huh? 😂 👍👊🥁
