One of your best videos if not the best so far thanks Dennis.

Binge watching all these videos in anticipation for my HT build. I have a $5500 budget....total, and that includes projector screen and light remodel of the basement. I got excited when you got to the DIY part and then imminently sad cause I don't have carpentry skills. I figure I'll use your extensive knowledge and science based advise, and just work my way backwards until it fits my budget. Sound principles (pun intended) never change.

Thank You for addressing the prices, Dennis. Much easier to budget.

D, Yes. What does this 10 K - 15 K get you? It gets you are a room response curve where all the unwanted issues are + 3 dB - +4 dB over baseline from 30 - 300 Hz. which is the most problematic, small room, frequency response range to deal with. With a +3 - +4 issue, we can apply small amounts of EQ. Small amounts are not audible. You can't EQ + 13 dB SPL. It sounds stupid for lack of word.

Like your videos a lot. For most of us, this is an argument for near field listening! 😉

They both have their merits. The larger sound field with far field listening is appealing. However, the loss of resolution is not. I have for the last 40 years, chased resolution in all forms within a small room. I had the middle and highs figured out with my foam technology rates and levels. When I found carbon, I was able to achieve equal resolution in the low end as I have in the mids and highs.

Thanks for the reply. My room is unfortunately a bedroom, 11 by 14 by 8. So technically below the size you find worth treating. But it is what it is. Someday I'll retire and move and hopefully be able to buy or build a home with a decent sized listening room. For now I'm using open baffle speakers, near-field (about 4-5 ft) listening, and cost-effective acoustic treatments from one of your competitors. It is what it is, and I can say the addition of treatments has helped quite a bit. Will start saving for my dream room, carbon, etc.

I sure am proud of listening to your videos Dennis Foley, It IS Frustrating to just think you can put up cheap foam and look the part. So much more to it, of which You can NOT control.

You can manage most issues within a small room if you have the budget and a good room size / usage match up.

Gulp....whelp.... I'll have to stick with the DSPeaker bass management and GIK abfusors / Primacoustic absorbers I have now. One good thing about DSP is that you can defeat it to immediately asses the effect of removing room modes. (If I'm listening at 70db in the morning I find I don't really need it).Then ask would I pay $10K for a physical solution? Lesson: Make sure you START with the largest room possible. 6x200lb bass traps will shrink your smaller room! Glad you're getting better D:-)

C, Everyone has different levels of acceptance when it comes to room distortion. Everyone has different references to draw from when it comes to their opinion of what sound quality is. I wish I could pass on what I know and have experienced in the last 40 years about what is possible with a properly treated and managed room. However, I have realized that I can not. I can only tell them of what I know gets in the way of sound quality. It is up to them to understand what I am telling them and hopefully act upon any changes that minimize room distortion.

Dennis, where does all the “low end” frequencies build up at in a room?
@AcousticFields
@AcousticFields 4 жыл бұрын
M, They "build up" along every wall surface and oscillate throughout the room at different distances between the respective frequency oscillations

I love your videos and find them very informative. However I really wish you would actually show some pictures of the products or items you were discussing. I noticed almost all of your videos are completely devoid of any pictures or video of the items on the issues you’re talking about.

so yee you will need 10-20k just for the acoustics ,, will be cheaper to build a shed outside your house in the correct dimension and shape to avoid all throws problems in the first place

You can minimize lower frequency pressure issues with the proper room size but you can not eliminate. All rooms will require treatment of some type. Most small rooms we do take between 15 - 20K to treat with fresstanding units.
