Thanks Carl! I've been with you from the start of my career change. Currently a 48 year old CFII, aerial survey pilot, and climbing the 1500 hour ladder at 1150. Also a cadet with a ULCC which is where I'm headed!

Great information! Thank you for the real talk. Retiring 53 y/o fireman here. This is my new focus. Seems like a crazy path but I have always wanted to fly. The pay isn't my first concern due to my upcoming pension but it does make a difference. Regional sure seems like the path I would like to pursue. Again, thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. I know you can do it. I have worked with many people your age who have actually made the career change and made it to the majors. It sure is a great career no matter what you wind up flying.

Thank you for this. I am literally in the middle of "counting the costs" of a change to aviation. I am definitely interested in a coaching session to dive deeper. Thank you again for the great videos!

@@AviationCareersPodcast sir, when I was looking at your availability calendar, I did not see times listed. Do you just have it set to show when not available?

Once you sign up for coaching you will see a link to my booking calendar. It normally takes 2 to 3 weeks to get into my schedule so you many need to look at the next months calendar.

How long do pilots generally stay at regionals before being picked up by a legacy?
@AviationCareersPodcast
@AviationCareersPodcast 11 ай бұрын
That really depends on the individual. I. have seen it range from days to decades. It really depends on the situation. Some stay at the regionals because the don't want to take the pay cut when the move to the majors. Others move on as quickly as they can.

QUESTION: Given the ~2years to get to 1500 hours; Do you think there will still be significant demand for people that start their pilot journey TODAY to get hired?
@AviationCareersPodcast

It is hard to predict the hiring environment when you get your hours but from a long term career perspective I feel there will be a demand for pilots for decades to come.

Do you have any advice for aspiring Canadian pilots? I hear they currently make SIGNIFICANTLY less money..
@AviationCareersPodcast
@AviationCareersPodcast 16 күн бұрын
I counsel many Canadian pilots and help them to decide if they want to stay in Canada or go elsewhere to the US to fly. There are many things to discusses especially where you want to live and work. The decision is more than about the money. Obviously if the goal is to make more money than trying to gain citizenship in the USA and landing a job with a major airline will be the best option for most Canadians. But again, money is only one consideration. If you need help deciding what direction is right for you please visit our career coaching page at www.aviationcareerspodcast.com/coaching/

Did I understand you correctly that once at an airline, I can or will have disability insurance? Is that an add on or that the pilot pays for or is that a benefit paid by employer?
@AviationCareersPodcast
@AviationCareersPodcast 9 ай бұрын
It depends on the airline. Most offer short and long term disability with the opportunity to buy more coverage and increase the benefit. The long term disability benefit is traditionally better at the major airlines, covering the pilot for the remainder of their career. Disability insurance is an important consideration when looking at any job. I recommend your reading the benefits carefully when choosing and airline since this is part of your total compensation package. Hope that helps and safe flying!

How can I become a pilot ? While I'm in Africa and I don't have enough money
@AviationCareersPodcast
@AviationCareersPodcast 11 ай бұрын
Many pilots I work with in Africa train in other countries where the costs are less or there is financial assistance. In America there are many schools that specialize in helping students from other countries obtain their pilot certificates. A search on the internet for "flight school international students" is a great place to start. We might be creating a directory since this is something that is often requested. Don't give up and take action now. Start researching schools and financial aid. If you would like to speak with me on an individual basis visit : www.aviationcareerspodcast.com/coaching/ Most importantly take one step every day to move forward towards your career goal.
