What a wonderful podcast, thank God! I’m 45 years old and cradle Orthodox. Not until 2 years ago did I *actually* want to acquire and learn about my faith. I knew nothing about Orthodoxy, only by name. Like you mentioned, I Didn’t know what a spiritual father was, didn’t know what catechumens were, I didn’t know anything. Guess what? I stopped going to church for many years. Glory to God, this Covid madness woke me up and I came back to the church and constantly repenting. It’s been a massive struggle but it’s sources like this channel and holy spirit driven clergy like Fr. Peter that help guide me, along with my spiritual father, of course. God bless you all! ☦️

You see, what the devil tried to do with the jab (enforced lockdowns) God turned into a blessing. Many people who were locked in their homes started soul-searching and came closer to God.

Great show! Yes. The Nous used to be how we understood the term intellect in English.
@Monica_in_Alberta Жыл бұрын
I think, if I may, Fr. Peter's point is that it is NOT the rational intellect but rather it's in the heart, the spirit, and the instinct of a person. A true theologian is practical, going deeper in The Way. Ethos and phronema go together.
@living_orthodox Жыл бұрын
@@Monica_in_Alberta I know my dear. I am an Orthodox priest who works with Fr Peter from time to time. I was clarifying that the term intellect in English use to refer to the same faculty as the nous. That has now been lost.

What an inspiring bunch. My first Priest would say to us young ones (when I was young like you) that he was most happy with his young bible study group. You all are so receptive and I sense this was such a joy for Father Peter. What a peaceful chat full of beauty. Thank you and God bless you all.

If you don't live in accordance with the with Farher, Son and Holy Spirit, you don't accuire within you the true phenomena. I agree with that. I myself am not a good example, i struggle with sins as we all do. But the more I live for Christ, the more of that phronema I find. Pray for me, that i might continue to live more for God than myself. I am struggling as we all do.

I really enjoyed this, and I like the idea of reading and following living saints and holy elders. But who are they? I've searched online and found list of saints who have died, but not of those with us now
@MegaMackintosh Жыл бұрын
In the Orthodox Church we only officially canonize saints after they have passed away. However, a prerequisite of them being canonized is that the laypeople and clergy recognize them as saints even during their life, as you can see with St. Paisios of Mt. Athos or Elder Ephraim of Arizona (who may be canonized within the coming years if God wills it) when they were alive and doing miracles and living holy lives for example. You can read the lives of the saints by purchasing certain books, like the Prologue of Ohrid and the Synaxarion and many other biographies of the saints, off of Orthodox run book presses such as Uncut Mountain Supply, Ancient Faith Publications, and many others. An example of a saintly person within the Orthodox Church who is alive today is Elder Paisios of St. Anthony’s Monastery in Arizona, who was the spiritual child of Elder Ephraim, who was also the spiritual child of St. Joseph the Hesychast. Another is Gerondissa Efpraxia of St. John the Forerunner’s in Washington, who is a very wonderful, sweet and especially saintly woman with the gift of clairvoyance by the grace of God.

The Saints who „died“ are more alive than us. Read their teachings, their lives. You can also search for a Geronta a few of them are very holy.

There are holly people it's just difficult to know since not everyone uses internet to spread the word...
@agiasf7330 Жыл бұрын
We have to pay close attention especially to our recent saints, as the Lord sent them to us in our times. So, let us read the lives & follow the teachings most especially of our 20th & 21st century saints. For instance, Gerondissa G (in Crete) reposed in the Lord just a few years ago & by the grace & power of God is filling us with miracles. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/gn2Zdnigjp2bb80

No, why would you change the Roman Catholic Church for "orthodoxy"?
@ffs61588 ай бұрын
Thank God for the online Orthodoxy. Just 5-10 years ago it was nowhere near as popular as it is now or easy to find information about, in English at least. I learned about it from the Catholic Encyclopedia, lol.

Discernment is also necessary in this case. I can point to 2 "Living Saints" that I have personally interacted with and one who I have not personally met but I know is a Living Confessor of the Faith like St. Ignatius of Antioch and is obviously heaven bound. And these people will never contradict the Fathers. I can see many more less than Orthodox Leaders especially in America.

I am a Catholic with an Orthodox Phronema - if that is possible? At 70 I am not changing Church now - and both my parents were devoted Catholics in a socialist Easter European country! You needed faith and courage for that! But now I listen to so many Orthodox channels and Orthodoxy really speaks to me - there is a marked difference between these churches, as far as I can see, in terms of participation and reverence/devotion. I also find it difficult not to be cynical about the Pope.....

That's because Jorge Bergoglio is a heretical antipope. But the Roman Catholic Church is definitely the true Church.

"Everyone has their own understanding these days..." - That's the demons who are giving them that incorrect understanding; especially, if they do not fully embrace the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Holy Fathers.

Fr Heers, in regards to a recent video I saw earlier today, about Corruption within Priests. Yes, all men fall short of the glory of God. To help stem these, sins, one must hold the line abiding by the church fathers, elders as such have been practicing for hundreds, near thousands of years. Heaven help us if we have to endure more than that again. Anyways, appreciate the orthodox community within KZbin at least. To which i must interject a testimonial fact. Joseph Smith Jun, was a prophet, seer and revelator.

Worth mentioning, my phone shut siren entirely when expressing less than half that details on the Orthodox Ethos channel. Thanks & God bless.
