I have an idea for your landscape fabric. If you end up taking it out of the beds for the winter to keep it out of the elements, make a tag of what you planted in the fabric and staple it to the end of the fabric. When you go to plant next year you don’t have to try and figure out what you planted in it last year. That way the size of the holes correspond with what you want to Plant in them.

The beauty of your videos is that we all see your work. And then we see the fruits of your work. Often people feel like everything should be easy and fast, but gardening is simple yet challenging and time consuming…but small consistent work reaps huge benefits. Keep up the good work! And I appreciate that they’re not sped up!

How sweet he helps ….when you have too much dehydrate……I use dried cukes in sour cream or Mayo add to chicken salad and casseroles, salad dressing even soups. Make into a powder for storing…..comes winter you can have the taste of fresh cukes in whatever….I do all my extra greens, squashes, pumpkin etc etc….I did petite tomato pieces and when dried it made a yummy salad topping and mixed in Mayo made a great add to my husbands Sammie and hamburger topping. Green tomato salsa is great for Mexican toppings.

@@sarahr.1076 beans like alot of moisture but while germinating in the ground if its to cool and to wet the seeds will mold and rot. One suggestion. When planting big areas of stuff like your corn, set seeds on surface and don't cover them until all seeds are spaced out. Then, if you have to respace them, you can just move the seed around. When covering or pushing into dirt, it goes very quickly. Great blessings everyone.

My husband told me something the other day about growing corn that he had heard of. Plant 1 corn seed, 1 pole (vining) bean seed, and 1 potato together in a hole. The potato grows down into the ground, the corn grows up, and the beans will use the corn stalk to grow on. Do t know if it works but I guess it would be worth a try.

The Kelley’s Country Life uses cattle panels, laid on their sides, overtop of their corn. As the corn grows, he makes sure the stalks come up through the panels, and they won’t blow over. He places some sort of poles around the edges of his raised beds, to attach the panels to, so they’re sturdy enough to support all that corn. It works!

Hi Becky , I am 64 years old and have a couple of things for you. when planting corn my gramps taught us 3 seeds per hole and of course it was in the field so it was about a foot apart. That being said i do mine in a raised bed and I do 2 seeds per hole and about 8 inches apart and it seems to do well for me . Now as far as the cloth I am on year 3 of mine and it is as good as the day we put it down. We did have some fraying this year due to a big storm but we just reburned it and it's fine. Make sure you use plenty of staples we put ours about 2 foot apart and we found that with the wind and such it has helped tons. for your melons you will need what I call a melon bra so be thinking what you want to make and or use for that. my gramps literally used grams old bras to hold the melons. that being said there are many things you can make and or use.

Unlike tomatoes, peppers, squashes, etc. corn doesn’t rely on bees for pollination. It relies on the wind. I suggest that when you thin your plants, you stagger them in your rows. I’ve never tried it in raised beds either, but if it doesn’t work this year, you might want to set up the recommended 10 x 10 (or bigger) bed up in the old garden near your strawberries. My father owned a nursery, garden store and landscape architecture company for many years. He was an avid gardener and hosted a weekly gardening radio program … and corn was always a problem because of the size and shape of the plot he could devote to corn. P. S. Mosque is pronounced “musk”

A suggestion when growing corn and beans you should plant them together but first you let your corn seeds grow about an inch. Then you back and plant your beans seeds. Once the beans vines start to grow you go ahead and wire the vines into the corn stems. When you back and harvest your beans it’ll be easier on you. Good luck ❤

I love all the progress in the garden. One thing I heard about sunflowers is that they take up a lot of the nutrients from around them and it will stunt the growth of other plants around them. Happy year 1 in the new garden!

We here in NC in my father in laws garden would plant Seneca Chief yellow corn. It did quite well in our area. The earlier you plant here, the less corn pests you get. That is from a lifelong farmer.

If you have as high of winds as you say(80-100mph winds) in the clear open area, I wouldn’t put the corn in beds. And I wouldn’t even put them in the new garden area. I would put them closest to the ground where there is more wind protection. We live surrounded by corn and strawberry farms and they just harvested all theirs. But we’re also in Florida so we’re a wee bit ahead on the season.

If you do end up adding sunflowers to your squash bed keep in mind that both of those are heavy feeders and you may need to fertilize more often throughout the season if you have sunflowers and squash in the same bed. You are such an inspiration and it is so fun to see how much you are able to accomplish in what seems like such a short amount of time. I still have to get more practice with pre-made meals. My first attempt was 5 gallon bags of meatballs and at least 25 portions of penne, 8 meals of salmon patties, and 4 lasagnas. It took three whole days to prepare, and package but I felt like I wasn't very efficient. We are still using meatballs to this day for sandwiches, casseroles, etc. and everything was delicious! Really excited to keep learning from you and hopefully getting a bit faster at meal preparations.

Ive grown corn in a raised bed. Make sure the bed is on the deeper side. And compost ALOT throughout their growth. They are hungry. Ive found that they can be planted slightly closer together than advised.

I am so excited to see your garden coming together! My husband has been helping me expand our raised bed gardens, and we put in 2 lower framed in ground areas for corn, beans, and peas with trellis for the pea/bean bed. I have everything but the corn, beans, peas, and melons planted and hoping to get them in tomorrow! Plus we have a wine crisp apple tree, a hosui pear, and a fignominal dwarf tree we are adding this year! Then, we plan on adding a whole bunch of raised beds to the front yard for a pollinator/herb garden that will hopefully be finished before next year's planting season. Your channel has been such an inspiration and motivation for me to get mine done and ive finally stepped out of my comfort zone and am trying new things to grow in the garden for canning and sharing with friends and family. Thank you for sharing all you do with us. It is truly a blessing to be able to watch and be inspired by you 💜

I have grown corn in a small plastic kiddie pool and I did get small ears of corn but they were good. I would suggest putting a t-post in each corner of your bed and when the stalks get taller start tying twine from post to post to help keep stalks from blowing over and breaking. Then as they grow more add higher strings of twine

Good luck with your corn. I have planted it for the joy of gardening but corn farmers in our area sell it for about the same price as I can raise it. Don't feel bad about buying fresh corn. I am glad you have those beds at walking level on one side so you won't have to climb into the raised beds to harvest the corn.

I watched your video yesterday, I wanted to assure you corn grows great in raised beds. I raised corn last year in a 4ft. X 8ft bed . I was able to have corn on the cob plus corn to freeze. You’ll do great. Since the silks need wind for germination I would shake the stalks a bit and noticed birds flitting around among the silks. They were also helping pollinate. 😊

If you clean your pots before you put them away in the drawer they'll all be ready for the next round of seed sowing or potting on. We do this & come the next round or next springtime we are so glad we did that. Frustrating if you need pots & you have to stop & clean them before you can use them.

I used to grow microgreens and specifically grew those sunflowers. Something you wouldn't believe until you try but adding pressure/weight to the sunflower seeds will help with germination. And you wont water them as much because the pressure/weight they are under keeps them wet. I used to use 10 pound weights on top and not water them for the week.

To reuse your cover for next year, you might label them before taking them up. Also make a drawing of each planter. It will allow you to count holes and document where you added stuff on edges and how productive each bed was. Then when you prep your seeds you'll also have a good idea how many starts you need for each bed and if you need to rearrange any. I'm in zone 6 so I'm doing some of this now and I'll use some of your ideas in my fall planting. 😊😊😊😊

Black oil sunflower seeds will grow whether in the sun or shade. I’m constantly pulling out sunflower seedlings out of my pots and buckets. Doesn’t matter how shallow or deep the containers are. We have a bird feeder near by and the critters are constantly planting the seeds. I pulled some out from under my beet leaves earlier today.

I was reading something from another gardener about how they plant corn and it was saying they dig 12 inches deep into soil and as corn grows they fill up so it has more soil around base so not to be taken out by the wind and thought genius. When I had done corn you could see roots at base and with wild weather they would get mowed down.

Next is another round of sugar peas, so we have some come on later than the ones we have coming up now. Cant wait...had to take a break from this heat quick. But heading back out in a few.

AWESOME!!! My sunflowers had grown about an inch inside from seed so I put them on a table in the sun on my patio 3 days ago for just a few hours. When I went out to get them to bring back inside THE SQUIRRELS ATE ALL OF THEM!!!! I had already filled ALL the bird feeders and put the squirrel food out (dry corn cobs from tractor supply) but the piggies STILL ate my BEAUTIFUL Sunflower 🌻 Starts of Many Colors and Varieties!!!!! uuuuugg. They even had black oil sunflower seeds out back I had sprinkled on the ground for the Cardnals. I have 7 acres with a creek next to the house and woods all around so I'm used to the animals... I just thought a few hours on the table BUT NOPE!!! Thankfully You decided to put the fence up!!! After ALL that hard work it's annoying when the Wildlife just gobble it up. Sorry about all the Slugs!!! We have ALOT of them here also, they are so destructive. I admit I go around with scissors and cut them in half but it's a full time job. Especially at night!!! I get obsessed, going out at 1am with a flashlight and scissors 😂. But my children are grown and thankfully I retired early so I have that luxury!!! Growing your own food is a Labor Of Love BUT So Fun And Rewarding 🌟💚💫❤!!! How's Baby Boy 💙 Doing? Bet He's Growing Like A Weed ❤✨. Why didn't you drive your 4 Wheeler down with all your stuff in it? Don't be hurting your back Dear Wonderful Wife ❤, Mother 💜, Daughter 💛 and Our Virtual Friend 💚!!! Western Upstate New York here 💕💐
