In your grow room now (and later in the greenhouse) what about installing a big whiteboard? You could map your beds out on it and mark what is in each bed. This would allow you to make changes as you plant. Plus it would give you a "map" of what is planted where. (sorry I am a big visual person lol)

Looks great! That’s the trouble with full free ranging- they get broody in the Spring and start making secret nests all over the place. We’ve had great success with keeping our chickens in our large fenced orchard. It’s a dual use area- fruit and eggs 😁. The chickens scratch up bugs and fertilize trees. When we muck out their coop, we use their bedding/poop to mulch trees. We also grow roses in there. Blueberries go somewhere else because the chickens peck off the buds in the Spring. It actually works really well!

Becky, I plant lots of red lettuce because it's so nutritious, but I don't like "soft" lettuces so I wash it all when I pick it and then I put it in either a zip lock bag with paper towels inside or a big covered bowl with paper towels on top of the lettuce. The paper towels absorb any excess water and after a day or so the lettuce is much more crisp than when I picked and it stays nice for at least a week. This also works on my green lettuce and spinach.

Genius! I use the weed fabric as well. I've been doing it for 2 years because I have chronic back pain, so I can't handle all the weeding. It does have it's pros and cons. I try to reuse the fabric, so if a plant doesn't germinate, I will have a hole that weeds will grow through, but it's easy to pull them. It also makes it harder to companion plant. But, I'm having THE BEST results with it even with those couple of Con's. It helps to keep the soil more moist as well.

Now that you have all the chicken poop (etc.) washed off the patio area, you can "soft wash" the same areas... You might want to wait until you've finished your hardening-off and planting, since that will add additional dirt on your concrete. After that: For every gallon of water, mix 2 c of bleach and a big squirt of dish soap (I like Dawn). Take a sprayer (or watering can) and apply that mix thoroughly to the area. Allow it to sit for at least 15-30 minutes, then just hose it all off (no need to pressure wash it off). I think you will be surprised to see how much "cleaner" everything looks! If you don't have "chunky stuff" (like chicken poop!), it is a much faster and easier method than pressure washing -- with FABULOUS results!

Petunias have been my Favorite Flower for 30 yrs now. I grew up in trailer parks. (very poor) and now , a tiny Urban apt. With a small porch... But I Always bought Petunias... Strong (hard to kill), Velvety...and Yet...delicate and 'Lady like' Grace...somehow...Inspirational 😊

You still have time.......the landscapers could make you a lovely set of rock stairs in the rock retaining wall about where the middle of your raised beds. Just a thought. 😊😊😊

Looks great! I also love to watch the yard clean up transformation from good people that does this for free and they always do yards that are very neglected! I love watching those!

Weather Guard is great to seal the wood. Here in Houston the weather isn’t good to maintain wood without protection. Weather Guard works well for us even for the fence as we have wood fences here. Love your channel Becky.

Hi Becky, My summers are too hot for lettuce so I grow them in my sun room in the south facing window and the rest under my grow lights. I never have a problem with the red lettuces, they are my favorite! Your grow room may be something you can grow sensitive herbs etc. through out the year instead of worrying about the tender things outside. 😊

I have used landscape fabric for years and I like it to suppress weeds .It lasts for Living Traditions Home stead. They use it on theirr inground garden and greenhoue.. they also have a good solution for free roaming chickens that works really well as well as keeping the deer out of thert garden.

The only thing to consider with the weed fabric is it will definitely raise the soil temperature and could cause cool season vegetables to bolt before maturing. It may not be an issue where you live so it’s definitely worth a try. I live in the south and weed fabric doesn’t work for me. I really don’t have a big problem with weeds in my raised beds. Everything looks fabulous!

Same! Plus the first couple of years, the weed aren't as aggressive in the raised beds, especially since Becky has gravel in between her beds. But, who knows? It might be just the best discovery ever!

I do all the pressure washing, and when we lived in a snow area for two decades, I shoveled all the snow. I enjoy it, my husband doesn't. He does other things. It works.

I enjoy those carpet cleaning videos too, so relaxing, and lawn mowing. The taller the grass, the more satisfying to watch. My son and I have plans to try some of your recipes next month while I'm visiting him. It's just a question of how to choose which recipes!
