Take a file to smooth down those sharp edges. Then sit the entire machine into a box to contain the bouncing beans. Also, use a downspout diverter to extend the dry beans going into a bucket on the floor. It gives you more room to work . I have one of those machines. You are going to love it. Thanks for bringing us along with you.

I love your videos, Becky. I have a suggestion/hint that would help you alot and be safer for you also - if you can do it. In your pantry upstairs, install a "dumb waiter" so you don't have to carry things up and down. I lost a good friend when she fell down stairs with her arms full of supplies that were going down stairs. She also made frequent trips up & down and it was such a tragedy. I don't want anything happening to you. You could put "duct tape" over the sharp metal places on your sheller - that's what I did. (P.S. It's really nice watching you and Josh working together. I hope he'll be in more upcoming videos)

Happy New Year! If you’re on a septic system please consider moving away from pod or sheet detergents. They use PVA (poly vinyl alcohol) to stay together or hold the detergent within the pod or sheet. This substance coats your septic system and can, over time, cause harm to the system’s ability to leaching water. It cannot be removed and must be dug out of the system. Learned this the hard way…

Hi, Becky. FYI, America's Test Kitchen says that if you don't touch your grated cheese, it will take a very long time to mold as opposed to if you touch it with your hands and even if you touch it with freshly washed hands, it will mold much quicker. I find all of my grated cheeses keep a very long time for me by keeping my hands off!

Hey Becky! What a sweet puppy you have 😍 on the bean machine, being a sewist, I quickly envisioned a cloth sleeve with a draw string to fit to the machine exit shoot and avoid beans flying out of the bag. Maybe you can cut the bottom of a cloth drawstring bag, if you don't want to be bothered with sewing it, but I bet it would make the process a lot easier. Great video, as usual!

Congrats in the new puppy! He’s adorable. When I first saw him, the name Cookie came into my mind my mind. Weird, that hasn’t happened before. Sweet of Josh to get him for you, you’ve talked about wanting another one for a while. He seems adorable and to be attached to you already. Glad the bean machine worked out.

Growing up on a farm, we always put our dry beans in a burlap bag and beat them real well. Then on a windy day we would transfer by holding them up high and let the wind blow the hulls away. Seemed much easier and less time handling a large harvest of peas or beans.

Happy New Year Becky and Josh. I was thinking to keep from cutting your pans you could try some of the small pool noodles and cut to size to go around the legs of your bean machine.

I really shouldn't be as fascinated with the bean machine as I was, but it was interesting watching it pull the beans out of their casings. You are so very lucky to have a partner in your life who helps you make sure your family has good food to eat. When I look at the number of projects you take on as a homesteader it blows my mind. It really makes me appreciate how easily you can go from garden to table with the setup you have and if I was younger I'd find it very inspiring. At my age, I'd have to hire a homesteader to do all that work. 😂

I have eczema and going fragrance free did help me. Hopefully it helps you too! Added bonus: fewer headaches (so hard to tell exactly what fragrance component is the trigger, and fragrance compounds are never listed), and you can smell the real world smells once theyre not covered by artificial fragrance 😊 Also... My eczema is very localized primarily on my hands, and it turns out (after many allergy tests) something in dirt (even potting soil) causes contact dermatitis for me. Super sad as I'm a gardener, but knowing the triggers means i can work to reduce them! A "cream glove" lotion helps a lot 😊 (dishweahing gloves do too, but they suck to work in in the summer!)

Absolutely love your newest family member! I'm so happy that Josh is able to be there with you on this adventure in front of the camera and especially how excited he was for the bean sheller. Although I personally love your pantry challenges knowing how much of your labor has gone into the individual ingredients, I understand if you decide not to participate this year. Absolutely love the recipes from Scratch Pantry and will be incorporating more of them into my menus this year.

Happy New Year! I have a suggestion for the second harvester..... Find someone who has a 3D printer (my husband has 3!) Have them make channels for the try that resemble the first harvester. On the first harvester making a cloth bag for collection of the beans and using velcro to secure it to the machine. Let me know if you want to try that as I could help you design it and possibly make it for you. Just Private message me. It must feel great to get to all these projects.

Happy new year to you and your whole family. I wanted to tell you that you inspired me to make cinnamon rolls from your Christmas breakfast endeavors and I followed the recipe you did and shared them with all my neighbors my next-door upstairs and downstairs neighbors and it’s the only the second time in 58 years that I have made Cinnamon rolls. I followed what you did pretty closely and that recipe was really good for the dough. It’s so much better than the first time I made cinnamon rolls. Really delicious. Thank you so much for sharing that recipe for the dough with us and showing us how you do it.

Since you already purchased the other and are taking it back, if it's close in cost, get a second of the one you liked. That way, you have two shellers and go even faster. Enjoyed it

Shells should be very good compost for the garden beds as well. You may want to turn the sheller so that the hulls go into a basket/bucket/collection system on the floor, and put a deeper bucket (3 to 5 gallon) under the bean spout. You can put caulk or hot glue on the sharper edges to make it more comfortable for you.

Becky, love all your videos. Happy New Year to Acre Homestead Family ! I enjoyed all the cooking videos with your Mom & Sister. Lovely & educational. I would like to make a suggestion about your BLEACH JAR. Please put a LABEL on it so no one will mistake it for SUGAR . Many children & some adults die in this country from ingesting a poisonous substance, please do not let one of your loved one's be among them. God Bless you all this new year. ❤

Cute, cute Yorkie! When you're chopping a bunch of onions like you did today, you can take those dry, papery outer skins and grind them to a fine powder. Instant onion powder! I've been doing it for years and it tastes so much better.

Becky, get with your mom to make a fabric bag with elastic around the top, or maybe velcro to get it in place and pull it tight to hold in place if you don't think elastic will work. Make the bag long enough to sit on the table so the weight won't drag on it as it fills. LOVE your new addition 🐶
