Hi Afrikaaner!! Happy to see you happy with your new discus🤗. Discus forever!!

Great information Merci but I wonder if we can use acriflavine also in saltwater ?
@discusdivana75812 жыл бұрын
Hello Michel! Nice profile picture. I do not know about acriflavine in salt water. I know nothing of marine. What I do know, is like I said in my video acriflavine is often combined with malachite green in medicine products. Malachite green definitely has a bad effect on certain marine species like stingrays and so. So please consult a marine aquarist professional. Lots of love, Divana.

Best information, and well explained. I wish you can clarify the difference between the discus cloudy body coating that makes them turn dark. It happened when I introduced a new Discus, and what are small white patches that are not Ich, and which medication can I use to treat them. Thanks

Hi Hubert, a 2 foot tank is normally 40-60 litres. I put 20 drops per 20 litres. To be safe, try 10 drops per 20 litres first

A flagellate that remains in the stomach lining and in the final stages spread to the whole body. There are a few types op Cryptobia - salmonicida, branchialis, etc. But the one that my fish had was the iubilans strain, seen only under electron microscopy. It creates granulomas in the stomach lining, so the macrophages of antibiotics cannot reach the parasite.

Hi, thanks for the great informative video! Ive been using acriflavine for quarantining my every new discus fish, used to to heal various external parasite issues as well. I wanted to ask if it works with internal parasites? Ive used metronidazole successfuly, healing the fish back to getting to feed again after it stopped eating. But I also used acriflavine for that fish, idk if that helped as well.
@discusdivana75813 жыл бұрын
Hi Salman, acriflavine can slow down the reproduction cycle of certain protozoa but not really eradicate the internal parasites. Acriflavin definitely helps prevent any secondary infections from forming externally while you tackle the internal problem yes. It depends what internal parasite your fish had, but generally acriflavine is good for healing and preventing bacterial infections.

@@discusdivana7581 got it, thank you! Just wanted to add that I very much share your love for these magnificent fish. The thing which I fell in love about them the most is the way they move. My betta fish has finrot & saprolegnia. I use Sera Baktopur that contains acriflavine & methylene blue. My question is - why the acriflavine turns colorless after a few hours? I already removed all the active carbon. Is it still working even though it's colorless or is it all gone? Thank you! ❤️
@discusdivana75813 жыл бұрын
Hello Chiki, acriflavine is normally a powder dissolved in liquid (aqua purificata) to create either the reddish arciflavine or the neon yellow/greenish acriflavine we know. Good job on removing the carbon. If you have SeaChem purigen, resin, zeolite, or other absorbing materials in your tank, then that can also absorb your acriflavin. If you have a very good strong filter that contains very, very fine filter wool for example, then it can basically catch the microscopic solids of acriflavin as well. Lastly, if you have high powered sponge filters finer/higher than 30-40 ppi (pres per inch) them it can also absorb the acriflavine a bit.
@discusdivana75813 жыл бұрын
With sera baktopur my tank remains yellow until I do water changes. If you have traces of bentonite clay in your water source if it's borehole it could also react and bind with the acriflavine.

@@discusdivana7581 i see.. i finally removed all filter floss & sponge from my hob filter and it helped but the color still fades a lot after a day, so it's probably my water source. Thank you for answering :)

Hi Divana. I want to ask when my new come discus arrive after 24hour trip, if they don't eat after aclimating, they still don't want to it after 2 days. What should i do to threat them, do i use acriflavine or metronidazole? The body, the fin was healt look like. And they swim normally. Thank you for read in. And much thanks for replay. I need some help. Please.
@discusdivana75813 жыл бұрын
Hello Hendra, normally discus take a while to start eating, especially after a long trip. My advice is increase the temperature first, with 1 degree and feed them the same food the supplier fed them. They should start eating if they are healthy 😁🤗👍
@discusdivana75813 жыл бұрын
You can also try a little bit of garlic as an appetiser for the fish on their food. Give lots of oxygen to the tank as well. Remember that discus stress lebels take up to 2 weeks to reduce, and cortisol stress hormone increaes up to six times in fish that are shipped! It is normal for them to not eat for up to 4 days sometimes. Don't worry, they should start eating. Sometimes discus are afraid of you, so sometimes they eat when you go away. A fear issue also stops them from eating. Move slowly, feed from the side and show them the food container before you feed. Sometimes they start associating you with that food container and the fear goes away. Give them sone time 🤗👍

@@hendrasb5963 sometimes the next day, sometimes after 4 days only! So don't worry, they can go without food for a long time. The supplier probably also did not feed them before sending them, so the discus need to get used to eating again. You can also try brine shrimp if they don't want to touch pellets, or try my mix 😁
