Across the Arctic Wild: A 20-Day Journey Through the Heart of the Barren Grounds, Episode #14 Stranded on the Arctic Coast with Jim Baird Adventurer.
The morning of day 16 starts off with a sigh of relief - we made it through the night without any bear encounters! I woke up, looked out of the tent, and thought, "Hey, good morning!" We've got two days left on the river, and we're aiming to reach our pickup location a day early.
We plan to cover about 30 kilometers today to give us some extra time before hiking to the Arctic Coast, which feels like the final milestone of this journey.
But the weather’s been shifting, and we're a bit concerned about our float plane pickup. There's a 60% chance of rain, and if the wind picks up, it might delay our pickup.
Join us on an unforgettable arctic adventure through the rugged landscapes of the Arctic as we journey down the Hood River. From battling headwinds and navigating rapids to discovering wildlife and the stunning Arctic Ocean, this trip pushes us to our limits. Along the way, we reflect on the beauty of nature and the challenges of remote travel.
Watch as we face unpredictable weather, explore historical remnants, and prepare for our final journey to the Arctic Coast. With every turn, the landscape reveals its raw, untouched magnificence.
Please don't forget to #SUBSCRIBE / @jimbairdadventurer and leave your FEEDBACK in the comments - we'd love to hear what you think of
our Across the Arctic Wild: Stranded on the Arctic Coast - E.14 Adventure. Thank You!

Canadian here. Trying to express what your arctic explorations have done for me. I never gave a thought about what the north looked like. In my mind it was a white frozen area. But, thanks to you, I am now deeply awed with the beautify of a untouched wilderness. And the variety of landscapes. I now want to do whatever I can to protect this treasure. It must feel like such a sacred space. I’m having a hard time explaining. Thank you so much for showing this part of our country to us.

Jim ! this Hood River canoe trip was epic. Those overview comments and thoughts , respect when talking about the fish and the land where very few people get to experience brought me to tears of joy. Once you experience northern canoe trips your hooked line hook and sinker. Back in 1985 I was 26 years old when seven of us from camp Kandalore paddle the Kazan river. Great memories. We started from Casba Lake finished at Baker Lake 31 days later and travel 860 km. I felt such at home in this place. Jim thank you for taking us along you are very fortunate to have a brother and sharing this time together. 👏

Just finished my 2nd watch through of this series and was just as mesmerized by it as the first. Ive been thinking for a long time about doing an expedition in the arctic and this series definitely sealed the deal whether its the hood, copper mine, or even the tree river and many others its become something I’ve set my eyes on for the future. Thanks for sharing it!

I’ll be doing another Barren Grounds River too! The Tree is apparently a raging whitewater torrent for long stretches which require constant portaging. The char fishing is next level though if you go at the right time but Plummer’s is there if that might detract from the trip, seeing people. I’ve heard really good things about the Anderson.
