Great song as it can be interpreted more than 1 way. I always heard it as no matter what you go through to reach a goal there is a price to pay even when you obtain the goal and that no matter what you do there is never true satisfaction and release in life. You just have to keep searching. Incredible tune.

I remember the film "The Border" staring Jack Nicholson that Ry Cooder wrote the song for. That movie was about corrupt US border guards stealing migrant babies to sell for adoption.

Looks like Rich Dworsky, for 23 years, he served as pianist and music director for Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion.

@@russellsingleton3244 Oh, thank you for the info. I've just bought the Gaby Moreno's newest album "Spangled!", co-produced with Van Dyke Parks. It is full of music of my favor, indeed. The song on this video of Ry Cooder's and others' is also finely rendered in the album.
