アクロス・ザ・ユニバース Across the Universe は、ビートルズの楽曲で、
1970年に発売されたアルバム『レット・イット・ビー』に収録されていました。ジョン・レノンによって書かれた楽曲です。
私が高1の時、レット・イット・ビーのアルバムを買いました。
当時3900円だったと思います。レコード2枚組かなと思いながら中を見るとレコードは1枚で、写真集(Get Back Book)が入っていました。ずっと宝物にしています。初めて全曲聞いて印象に残った曲がアクロス・ザ・ユニバースでした。Nothing's gonna change my worldの言葉は涙が出る位大好きです。
本作は1967年後半から1968年初頭にビートルズのメンバーが関心を寄せた
超越瞑想に影響されている。繰り返し歌われる「Jai Guru Deva Om…」は、
サンスクリット語で「我らが導師、神に勝利あれ（神に感謝を）」の意で、
マハリシ・マヘーシュ・ヨーギーの師にあたるグル・デヴに感謝を捧げる
マントラである。
楽曲は、ヴァースのあとに「Jai Guru Deva Om…」というフレーズが後に、
「Nothing's gonna change my world」というフレーズを3回繰り返すという
構成になっている。3つのヴァースでは、それぞれ「歓びの波」、「落ち着かない風」、「百万の太陽の輝き」について歌われている。
後にレノンは、「実際のところ、最高傑作かもしれない。呼び名はどうであれ、良い詩だよ。僕が好きなのは、メロディ抜きでも単体で成り立つ歌詞。
メロディを必要としなかったら、詩みたいように読めるだろう」と語っている。

I bought the Let It Be album when I was in my first year of high school.
I think it was 3,900 yen at the time.
I thought it was a double record set, but when I looked inside, it was just one record and a photo book (Get Back Book). I've treasured it ever since.
The song that made the biggest impression on me when I listened to the whole album for the first time was Across the Universe. I love the words Nothing's gonna change my world so much that it brings me to tears.
This work was influenced by Transcendental Meditation, which The Beatles were interested in from late 1967 to early 1968. The repeated tune "Jai Guru Deva Om..." is a Sanskrit mantra that gives thanks to Guru Dev, the teacher of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The song is structured as a verse, followed by "Jai Guru Deva Om..." and then "Nothing's gonna change my world" repeated three times. The three verses talk about "waves of joy," "restless winds," and "a million suns." Lennon later said, "It's actually probably my greatest work. Call it what you want, it's good poetry. I like lyrics that stand on their own without a melody. If you don't need a melody, it reads like poetry."
