I like the experiment I just heard about tis for the first time and always wondered if I should cover my canvas with something to get rid of the texture first.

@@jordanlemay7385 WOOHOOO lmao thank you!! and yes oil ground and gesso are both great for getting rid of texture, but most canvas you buy comes pre-primed anyway so you don't need to add anything if you don't want! :)

It looks to me like the oil ground painting is more vibrant. I loved this video. As an oil painter it was a very interesting experiment. I’ve just subscribed 😊

Ehmmm... Do you know that you actually need to wait oil painting to fully dry before varnishing it? And it requiers up to one YEAR. And its exactly the same with any oil ground. Yes you need to wait it to fully dry before be able to paint on it. And yes - its oil - so its just not "few days". Full stabilisation process of oil ground will require up to one year - and only then you can paint something on it. So whats the reason to use it at all?

Hi - that's not true with Gamvar Varnish. Gamvar may be brush applied when the painting is dry to the touch and firm in its thickest areas. For some oil paintings, that might take two weeks, for others, 2 months. To check if it's dry, gently press your nail into the thickest part of your painting :)

@@hrr222 hi, oil ground is a primer and you can paint over it in 1-2 weeks when it’s dry.

@@hayleyhawkins no you cant. It still oil. It has oil medium as base. It dryes fast, but the full stabilisation of the surface requers months to fully dry. If you will not do it, your painting surface will crack cos the basement technically still wet.
