Also, I’ve found using a pipette to make the “blob” for your drip test, works really well to “blob” the same amount. They’re cheap and I can reuse them as long as they’re cleaned out right away. @@MOLLYSARTISTRY YES!! Molly, I can NOT tell you how many 24”x30” canvases I have bought and ruined, trying to get this painting right! The client (well, my brother in law) wants a black background with a HUGE red, silver and white flower blown out with very little negative space. No matter what brands I use, my reds end up turning a purple color and it’s just a mess! I want the reds to remain very vibrant but it’s like they mix with the black too much and just look muted. I can email you pictures of some, if that would help but I’d love ANY help/advice you could give!! I’m even more than happy to pay you for your time to help me conquer this painting! I appreciate you soo much and I ALWAYS get so inspired after watching your videos!! Thank you! Much love my friend, Treesie

I’ve been using floetrol and water with Amsterdam, and just recently tried creative inspirations with just water. Interesting that it seems you might be doing the reverse! I have had a problem with Amsterdam metallics floating to the top. Maybe I need to make it a little thicker. I love these tutorials! Thank you so much!

Yes! I had this 3 days back. I had four deep edge canvases to create something similar to this demo. I normally use arteza & Pebeo but for this I used Meadens black & it swallowed up my colours - so glad of this demo, Molly, now I know the cause of the problem! Got to say, even though these canvases are already prepared, I gesso 2 or 3 coats beforehand. So my paint always goes over the edges & sides beautifully without leaving bald patches. Just a tip! Thank you, Molly - you’re a little star! xx

I have tried to imitate colors and pours from both you and Olga (imitation is best form of flattery 😊) and found especially in black pours, that I seem to fail spectacularly. Watching this was like having a light bulb 💡 go on in a dark room. I suspect I have been having a similar issue even though I don’t mix just with water. This video was awesome because I am moving on from ready to pour paints. I would rather spend the money and get a better paint. I also like the Simplicity of only using water versus messing with floetrol if I don't have to. I like the idea of running the paint test as you did. My only question left on this video is that gold paint which I think was metallic. Saw that you added it on last and I'm thinking that was by Design versus pouring it first or in the middle. On the beginners site yesterday I questioned on a new post regarding water with quality paints and which paint would those be? I learned a lot from this video so I'm looking forward to more! I have watched 200 videos and spent way too much time watching versus having fun painting! BTW, I also like how you titled this video. Easier to find

Molly Mol! Yes yes yes! You just helped me soooo much! I use the Artist loft white and black as my base. It’s affordable and always in stock! But the Amsterdam black all the way to the left is a black I’m really digging! I’ll have to go back for the name because I’m ordering it tonight! I love that deep black! Not dull at all! I’ve noticed the artists loft white swallows up my colors and I kind of dig that bleeding into one another look but not for all fluid applications! I’m having such a hard time getting the Dutch pour! And I love flowers so much! I love the elegance the Dutch pour has! Also, I realize my paints are way too thick for the Dutch! It kind of freaks me out to make my paints that thin! But I’m gonna do it because I trust your knowledge! Don’t ever stop sharing what you learn! I’m wanting to be able to create and sell my art as part of what I do in retirement because I love to make pretty things and I love to create! I wish you lived in Oregon! Don’t feel bad about the flurry and slurry. I was discussing the brand pixies for alcohol inks once and I said remember those pixie sticks we had as kids? Totally unrelated but if a new artist goes to the store and say I want to buy those pixie inks, someone might be able to help them and say you mean pixis! So my brain works like yours and I get it. I find it endearing. Man I love that black. Amsterdam it is! Fingers crossed I can get this Dutch pour! One last comment…..the turquoise and dark violet - beautiful. You know there is purple turquoise? Blue, green, purple and possibly white! Wouldn’t that be pretty?! Thank you for this video. I’m going to read the description and I hope you have your canvas stands listed. I am going to order some!

Very good educational content. When I used acrylic paint, it took me awhile to get the right consistency. It was trial and error for awhile. I think the brand names are a little bit different. Not a lot but enough that I would have to judge it by feel and stretch. I love this painting. It reminds me of a deep sea view of colorful corals! Nice work Molly. I do enjoy your videos. Please do the same for different white base too. Thank you. I used artist loft soft body black noir plus floetrol and water. It swallowed my paint and edges were not covered completely and after drying it was really dull. I have 2 big bottles of this color. Love love love it. I will be forever grateful for every single mixing, comparison, how to, explanation, tutorial video that you’ve made. I remember watching your how I mix my paints video 10+ times when I started, then watched again the first 5ish times I mixed paint. I can’t tell you how many times I decide I going to try a new technique (new to me) and then I spend an hour+ watching your past videos of that technique before I try. my current one for that, is your starburst pattern. I’ve watched those 4 videos at least 3 times each in the last week. I’m doing something wrong, but I know I’ll get there eventually. Anyway the point is I know I’m not the only one that goes back to watch things several times but even for those who only watch it once, I know they are getting tons of great info and walking away with so much value. You’re a great teacher and your inspiration is limitless. Thank you for everything.

Other experiment ideas: you said the creative inspirations paint has cracked with too much water whereas the Amsterdam has good binders and hasn't done that. My question is, could you add a binder to it like Elmer's, or a GAC to bind the paint better and then see if that solves the problem and thereby let's you still get by using a less priced paint brand.so you could do a control of just the C.I with water knowing it'll crack and then do another with Elmer's as a binder and another one with GAC as a binder to see if they all still crack or if that salvages a cheap paint. I noticed my white A.L breaks down when I dilute it. Is it just me or did I used too much water?

Thanks Molly. I loved this tutorial. I am learning all the time. Still experimenting with different ratios of paint/foetrol/pm/gloss medium/glue. After each canvas I have finished, I note down all the colours I have used plus what ratios of paint to water etc. My biggest problem is using the GOLD colour. I find it disappears if I incorporate it in laying down of the various colours. I am using the Australian brand GLOBAL (for gold, pearl white, pearl mist)which seems to be much thinner in consistency. It only works if I add the gold after I have finished using the hairdryer and then I use a straw to move it around. I am so looking forward to watching your next few tutorials using different paint mixtures and the effect they have once you have using the hairdryer.

Super helpful, Molly - and saves time and money! I use less black for bases and I'm chomping at the bit waiting for more of these - please do whites!! I just did a 4-pour experiment with white interior semi-gloss house paint (Behr), using your PM, using water, and Amsterdam and Artist Loft with your PM, but not with water. Your turn...catch us up! BTW, the interior house paint with just water gave me crazy lacing but swallowed a lot of colors...your turn! Will be watching for it!
