When you create tiles do you cover them with a heat resistant resin for durability - washable surface? I can see how they would make a beautiful floor design or backsplash ? 💌🧚

Ok...this is the third video I have seen saying that glue-all is amazing for cells, BUT in every video all 3 artists used silicone drops in the paint as well. My problem with this is that everyone knows you will get cells with silicone 100% of the time. So, it only stands to reason that none of these videos prove that glue-all, or any type of glue, produces cells. I am an acrylic artist of 26 years who has been pouring off n on for several years...maybe 4 🤔 And I just haven't dedicated enough time into creating my own pour medium so I spend a lot of time watching different artists experiments. I think you're brilliant and I especially enjoy your test recipes, most recently your bloom technique without all of the extra ingredients. I just don't understand why so many artists are saying glue creates great cells when they are using silicone at the same time 🤔 I pray you have an incredibly blessed and beautiful day!
@LeftBrainedArtist
@LeftBrainedArtist 3 жыл бұрын
There is no medium I have found that makes this type of very circular and large cells by itself. Floetrol will make small cells or misshapen cells when very thin. Glue gets used with silicone because it holds the shape better than any other medium when using silicone.

I have mixed up all the "glue/water" and paint. I am now going out to my studio and hope I get something wonderful like you did. Question: Does glue water paint need some time to sit before using it? What do you clean you paintings off that you use silicone in? Thanks for your wonderful videos, love your thorough explanation.

If you pour immediately you'll get a few more pinholes as it dries (trapped tiny air bubbles). But those don't bother me and my patience is super low so I never work about them. Hope that helps Terrie.

Did you not use a pillow? Is this because you're using a tile or the type of pouring you're doing? Thanks for helping all of us newbies!
@LeftBrainedArtist
@LeftBrainedArtist 2 жыл бұрын
No. Pillow is a confusing term unfortunately. That should only be used when referring to the latex paint base used in the Sheleeart bloom technique and maybe the ghost cells or the methods that Sarah Taylor uses. I explain a bit about that in this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKnTdJ6XZbSqgNk Everything else just uses a base coat which is the same paint mix that gets used in the painting.

@LeftBrainedArtist

You can but when you have mixes that aren't at least similar you don't get consistent results. It can work but you might get some randomness with them also. For you I would just recommend using all glue or all floetrol (depending on which is cheaper where you are) as your pouring medium.

You are my "go-to" person for answering my stupid questions. I see it a lot, mix 70% glue to 30% water - but my non-logical brain has a hard time figuring that out. If someone would say you use x amount of grams, or ounces of each, then I could grasp it. Sorry, if that sounds silly.
@LeftBrainedArtist
@LeftBrainedArtist 3 жыл бұрын
Not at all. I usually start with 70 grams and 30 grams. That means you ultimately have 100 grams (about 3 ounces) of medium which would normally mix with about 50 grams of paint (1 1/2 ounces) and that makes approximately 150 grams or 5 ounces of mixed paint plus whatever water you add. You add and subtract from there.

I’m brand new to this amazing art but I’m confused about what’s the best ingredients to use. The 70 percent glue to 30 percent water ...is that used to mix in with the paint alone or I’ve also heard 1:1 ratio of paint and pouring medium. Also I would like to have the paint medium and paint pre mixed in large bottles. I feel very confused and I am grateful for any advice from anyone!! Oh and if someone knows how to mix and paint so I don’t have total mud! Every thing I have made looks ok until I start tilting the canvas and then it somehow turns to muddy and I have to start over. Thanks in advance to anyone that has advice or ideas for me!
@LeftBrainedArtist
@LeftBrainedArtist 3 жыл бұрын
Low quality paint (craft paint) you do 1:1, medium quality paint (tube paint and student paint) is 1:2 or 1:3. Heavy body high quality paint is more like 1:3+. The mud is probably because your paint is too thin or you are putting colors that are complimentary right next to each other. I'd say the stuff is too thin though.

You can go to the website and use the contact form leftbrainedartist.com. Premixed are definitely way more expensive. FYI any strong glue will generally work. Just don't use school glue because it isn't as strong and is usually much thinner than regular glue for easy cleanup.

I appreciate all you do for us, thank you!! Here’s my issue. I do large flip cups. I let them cure for about 6 weeks. When I wash them off with either dishwashing soap or laundry soap ( I only use drops at a time) the paint gets very tacky and I can see bare canvas spots. Have you ever experienced this? Also do you have an alternative way to clean off the silicone? Thank you.
@LeftBrainedArtist
@LeftBrainedArtist 3 жыл бұрын
Paint the canvas first and let it dry. Then pour over that. This will ensure you have colors where the silicone pushes the paint away. You could also dry using thin base coast (wet) and then doing the flip cups on that so you have a layer of paint that the new paint with silicone sites on top of. Cleaning silicone is tricky business. Especially with glue as it can unharden with water. I have started using face wipes or Windex but just a teeny tiny bit. You don't want your rag or the painting to get visibly wet. The tackiness shouldn't be a problem as you should always be putting a UV varnish/finish on to any work you are wanting to keep or sell.

I would assume you can just looking at what that is. I would try 1 : 1 with paint first then add water. See how that works. If the paint quality is really good you could go up to 2 : 1 but know the colors will be slightly lighter as the glue has white pigment in it looks like.

And pouring color (acrylic : Pouring Medium) is 1 : 1. My painting had very bad cracking after dry. Why? How can I prevent the cracking? Please help.
@LeftBrainedArtist
@LeftBrainedArtist 3 жыл бұрын
Couple of reasons. Your paint is too thin and there is too much on the canvas at the end. You don't want more than about 1 ounce per 25 square inches. I have had trouble with the bulk white from artist's loft and and Craftsmart. Adding a little bit of a professional pouring medium (1:10) or so to the glue medium can help also.

A tiny bit of 91% isopropyl alcohol (drops) or personal lubricant (also silicone) or hair serum that is 100% dimethicone all work. A small spray of WD-40 (silicone auto spray) works also. The cells aren't quite the same but if you are in a pinch it works.

Two important pieces to this I would say Denise: 1) know how much paint you need up front. If you know you use the right amount of paint you can stop whenever you have coverage and you like your composition. Try using my acrylic pour paint calculator to help hone in one the right amount of paint leftbrainedartist.com/calculator. 2) When you don't have obvious section of paint that are moving much faster than the rest of the canvas when you are tilting you are probably ok to stop.

I have had the best success with Elmer's. I always buy a gallon from from the hardware store which is usually $15. The price of the smaller containers varies more. I don't like school glue at all but I don't see why you couldn't use the non-school glue or the clear glue also.

Weight because I think it's easier and requires less work (filling a cleaning measurement cups) . You can do either but you need to stick with one or the other for all of the paints. Also, the more paint you make the less similar weight and volume become.

I have a question about using glue as a pour medium. Someone posted about using glue as a pouring medium. She swears by it. BUT she mixes glycerin with it. Have you heard of this? Will it work with silicone oil? Does it help with cracking with the glue? Thank you.
@LeftBrainedArtist
@LeftBrainedArtist 2 жыл бұрын
Glue works great with silicone. Glycerine is added to break the surface tension to help more cells form. It will not help if you are getting cracking. 90% of the cracking problems I have seen people have is because they thin their paint too much or they use low quality white paint which made of chalky powders and causes cracking.

I’ve been messing around with some old paints and stuff, but they are not good quality anymore. I have been like a kid on Christmas Eve all day. I think it’s why I woke up at 2am. But I have been getting things set up so when the supplies get here I can mix and go! I expect lots of ‘crazy woman’ laughs, huge messes and beautiful art! I might forget to make food if I’m not careful.

yes 70% glue and 30% water is a great starting point. You can add a little more water if you want your paints thinner after mixing with the medium. Also, the crazy laughs, huge messes and beautiful art is what I live for. That's why this is such a fun and therapeutic art form.
