About me:
I've been making short films for 20 years, starting at age 11. I directed my first feature film, Bad is Bad, in 2010. Made for only $6,000, the film went on to reach over 7 million views and garner critical acclaim. More recently, my short film, Will "The Machine", screened and won awards at film festivals around the world. Released online in 2019, it reached over 1 million views in just a month. I also work as a video editor, cutting ads for clients such as Apple, Netflix, and Beats by Dre.

Personally, I get a lot of value out of the more long form in depth videos you make. So for me, waiting a bit longer and getting that extra detail would be a better trade off. But congratulations, you certainly deserve success on this channel, as you are one of the best filmmaking resources on the platform. So thanks for the effort you put in, it's appreciated.

As one of your pre-100k subscribers, I definitely get more from in-depth content than cookie cutter videos. Yes the consistency is great but as your channel name suggests. Story is key…we won’t mind waiting for bigger, better content. Just keep it up, you’re a great teacher and I have personally done so many of your tips and tricks, from editing to solo filmmaking.

To me this channel thrives when focusing on those small yet crucial details that are usually left out on other filmmaking channels. KZbin is filled with gear, writing, editing and color grading videos, but to me this was one of the few channels that had a heavy emphasis on the characters and their backgrounds and how to implement them into the story, which is kind of what I've been trying to train for few years now. Also how to get you video actually published or to a film festival is something that is very valuable information, which I don't see that often, at least with a budget of a shoestring.. Oh, and a better insight to a filmmaking budget and how it's divided would be great as well..

I'm a relatively new viewer, just checking your stuff out the last few months. From everything I've seen I'm a big fan as a fellow film maker. I think your goal for 2023 for a short film and some other projects staggered in there would be the best for my viewership, which parallels to my own channel where I want to keep making music videos every 1-2 months but also focus on more short films and experimental stuff. Big fan of the channel and how you present yourself. Excited to see what you put together in the future!

I would love to see a big short film with less frequent youtube videos! I know doing something you really love is a major motivator, and honestly I'm not on KZbin all that much. Also, I'm super excited about the beginner filmmaking guide you're planning to do! Your channel has been the main reason I'm able to start practicing this craft with no budget. There's many others out there who try to teach that too, but you explain everything so much better, you're more truthful, and there's even a comedic bonus lol. Just wanna say thanks for helping us all out (:

Congrats on the plaque. That is so cool! The reason your channel grew was because your early videos were good. When people started tuning in, they went back and watched older vids. I love watching your creative process, problem solving, and seeing the finished product. Watching your channel, is like learning from a chef how to cook a meal, what problems to look for, then getting to taste the food. Don’t worry, I’ll keep watching both here and on Patreon no matter what (or until the next pretty face comes along). 😉

I vote for the lesser of videos but with higher quality. I firmly believe the viewers enjoy more long-form quality content especially when it’s on topics they enjoy. Congrats again. Random AF but I was vacationing in Hawai’i a couple weeks back and could’ve sworn I walked right by you on the street. Must’ve been a celebration on your plaque type of trip. Lol. Keep up the quality content. Congrats.

Horror Short Films could really propel your Channel by a lot. Those are usually the most Searched Types of Content by people of All Ages and could bring in Viewers from other Countries as well. Really consider doing some of those here and there while also doing step by step Videos on How you Wrote, Filmed, and Directed the Horror Short Films too. Ps… Reaction Channels love Watching Horror Short films so that could boost your Name in the Algorithm as well.

HI, new subscriber here... TBH its all overwhelming, what editing program to use, what microphones to use, what cameras, what lighting etc etc etc... there are literally hundreds of editorial videos on what to do, what not to do.. i have been studying via youtube learning and absorbing as much as I can getting ready to start my own channel.. but out of all the videos I watch I haven't found a start to finish with an in-depth demonstration of all the equipment, then editing, most videos are focused on pacifics ... I would love you to make a video on making a short film, a documentary on how it was made, what equipment you used, how much time went into it.. show the equipment, costs, show us some editing technics and the programming you use, the way you edit the sound and lighting etc.. as a wannabe film maker myself i would embrace a full video on such.. make it go for a full 30minute to a hour.. I bet you will be blown away how much traffic you will get... you have this mentality that 5 minutes is enough... its not true, some of the longest educational videos i have watched can go for 40minutes plus, and they have literally millions of views... so many want to embrace this world of cinema and film making.. literally show us how you make a film from start to finish, right down to the little details, the costs of the equipment needed.. then at the end of it show us your film... I would like to point out, all the research i have done on the monetization of being a youtuber proves that just over 10minutes is the best, as many youtubers said that when they did this and inserted 3 ads their income tripled per video... don't be scared to unleash an abundance of information, many of us are like sponges... i would love to see just one youtuber do a start to finish, showing everything needed and what was involved ... go for it... do with a budget in mind, click bait it wit " short film on a budget"... or "tight budget to make mini movie"... i bet it will be a banger...

Dude! Congratulations! 🎉 This is awesome! Not only is your content very valuable and informative but your personal journey in growing your KZbin channel is inspiring and motivating as well. I say do you - create those big projects and upload to YT when you can. If that means less frequent yet higher quality videos - and it also lightening the burden of producing “content” so you can focus on your passion projects - then I’m all for it! Thanks for all you do, Kent. I’m rooting for you! 🙌🏾

Congrats! Your videos are great, and it's fantastic to see you finally getting some attention with your stuff. I had momentum with my channel a number of years ago, but let it go right when it was ramping up to do freelance work instead of committing fully. Wound up losing the majority of my viewerbase, even losing partnership on the channel last year. Luckily my foray back into KZbin with a full rebranding of everything I'm doing has been going well so far, with the VR stuff I've been putting out garnering a 4000% increase in views over the last month. It's really great when the algorithm starts pushing you to peoples' front pages, even with the smaller numbers I'm getting compared to you. Best of luck with the future of the channel! I'll catch up if I can. lol

Brand new to your channel, watched your "n 3 months I started at Netflix" and I love your honest and genuine approach to making videos that can help other creatives. Not saying McKinnon doesn't put out a video once in a while that can be helpful (not like he used to), but lately it seems that he is doing it cause he has to, not cause he WANTS to, and he even admitted to that. And you seem like you genuinely want to put out content that is insightful and helpful! Keep up the great work! Definitely go for the short films or even short docs.
