Acting Audition Tip | Yikes! The Casting Director Threw You A Curveball...Now What?

This was for a Non-Union Student short, so the Director was doing the casting for every step of the way! It was like walking into a Callback or a Second Callback for the first read! Luckily I was confidant enough that I was at ease and in good spirits. I got a chance to speak with the Director before my audition and we connected on a personal level then. When I walked in we talked and when we were ready I did the scene. I followed the directions in the sides that said I was emotionally involved and 'In Love' with my boss. My re-direct was "Okay, now do it like you hate him." I took a breath, said okay and made the decision that I still loved him (didn't change the relationship that I had built) but that he was cheating on me and I was entering this new scene having just discovered that crucial piece of information. I booked the job (With a heftier roll) - HOME RUN!

excellent again. this has happened a lot and a lot of times based on things that are on that were on the special skills section of my resume. went to an audition where the character was very Indian and was asked out of the blue to do a Scottish accent talk about out of the blue curb ball. it through me but ended up having a lot of fun with it. make sure we can do on the spot whats on the special skills section of resume well. was curb balled with being asked to bark like a dog and even rap.lol thanks Amy it is a great thing to be reminded to be ready for because we easily forget.

I understand that you don't want us to freeze up or freak out, but I don't understand what we do after that. Do we react quickly, or are we allowed to prepare for a few moments?

Also, a curveball may be a test to see if you can take direction on set.

Take it as a compliment because they see something in you that may be useful now or in the future. You don't go to The audition to get the roll u go to show your roll
