The best way to build confidence is to do things you're not sure you can do. The best way to get over shyness is to become an actor - just do it. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Soon enough you'll be the one answering peoples questions about how to overcome shyness. I guarantee it. You can't even answer that question unless you've BEEN the shy one who overcame it. Don't make excuses, take a class. The difference between winners and losers is that winners will find a solution to every problem and losers will find a problem with every solution. If you REALLY want something, you'll find a way. If you don't really want it - you'll find an excuse. Kurt just gave you the solution - don't be a loser. Take a class. BTW, Playhouse West in Los Angeles only costs $225 per month. PW is one of the best schools in Los Angeles (started by Jeff Goldblum) If you can't afford THAT - you're just making excuses. A job at McDonalds pays $3,482 per month. Stop making excuses.

Talent is what you need to succeed in this business - not luck. That's why actors never say "Good luck" to each other - it implies that the only way you're going to succeed is because you got lucky. Instead, we say "break a leg". And that phrase goes back to the days of Vaudeville (early 20th century). You can Google that phrase in order to learn more about it's origins, but in the mean time - break a leg! Hope you get cast!

@ActingCareerCenter
@ActingCareerCenter 3 жыл бұрын
An actor demo reel is an edited video collection of an actor's best performances (typically between 30 seconds and 3 minutes long). It's similar to an artist's portfolio. If you were a sketch artist, you would have a folder with some examples of your best work to show to people. An actor's demo reel is a collection of an actor's best work to show to people. Talent agents, managers, casting directors, and potential employers view demo reels when searching for new acting talent.

I myself live in the greater Cleveland area and was skeptical about how many opportunity's there would be around here. I've been homeschooled my whole life and I'm currently finishing up the 10th Grade. Although portrayed to be extremely easy, my homeschool curriculum was much more intense then most, and my school days typically last about the same if not longer then the normal 8-4 public school curriculum. With my new ignited interest in acting I was hoping to get into acting classes this summer, is there any specific place you recommend in the Cleveland area? Thanks, love the videos!

That's more of a screenwriting question - this is an acting channel.

Hey Kurt, what does A.T.L. stand for? Also, please tell us about your coffee mug logo. You always display these prominently, however, I have yet to see where you explain the importance of what they represent. Thanks in advance!

It stands for Atlanta which is where he lives. It's the airport code for Atlanta. If you ever fly into ATL look at the ticket on your luggage.

thank you for all of your videos ❤ can you give me advise - I am from Europe and English isn't my mother language but I can it very well. My dream is become actor in usa for example in Atlanta. I should start acting in my country or go to usa and there start? please help me
@liquidbraino

I would say start where you already are with the resources you already have available and work on perfecting your English language skills & American accent - that's IF you plan on being an actor in America. Most actors that I know from other countries would be getting very little work if they couldn't fake an American accent. You would always be playing the German guy or the French guy - I see very little of that on the casting sites, occasionally but not much. You might even be able to find a dialect coach in your area but you can start now just by searching "American accent" on KZbin. Make friends with Americans in your country; try to pick up on their slang & ways of speaking and finally (once you get good) see if you can fool an American. If Americans think you're American you're doing it right. THEN move to America. A lot of people will say find a school where you already are but in my opinion the best schools are out here and probably cheaper too but be prepared to spend at least two years in training. The whole visa and passports situation I can't really tell you much about because I've never had to deal with it but for my foreign actor friends it's occasionally a problem - one that forces them to go back home before they even finish training so it's important you get all that stuff taken care of. Also, don't be in a huge hurry to get your SAG card or IMDb credits - that can come back to bite you in the ass later if you're not careful, don't join SAG until you have to (you get two letters - a "can join" letter then a "MUST join" letter); wait until you get the second letter THEN join the Screen Actors Guild.

For Canada I've heard Actors Access, Casting Networks, and Casting Networks are the bugger ones here

Yes, Casting Networks and Casting Networks are the two best casting sites. Or as some people call it "Casting Networks".

What's a demo reel? Is that the video showing your clips at the start of your video? Is it just to showcase different roles you have done?

I feel like I have such a passion for acting but in some way it makes me really nervous and I question if I should actually continue trying to learn more things about acting. I also just started high school and I'm taking a theater program, my first day with that class is tomorrow and It is my first time taking a class that actually teaches me things about acting and I am kind of nervous for it, so I don't know if it was the right decision to take the class.

I start my second year in high school soon and i decided that i wanted to take the second part of the course! Thank you for asking.

Hey Kurt, maybe this is an unusual question, but do you think that modelling experience (runway, editorials, commercials, campaigns, shooting...) can somehow help you in the acting world ? As a model I don't have to be actually acting but still I can't be fully myself either. I see many similarities in these two carrier (there are producers, brands, CDs, auditions, audience and cameras too) and I'm thinking about making the transition to acting, when I'll have enough money for classes of course... So I'd love to know what info YOU can give me about this. Also since we're here I want to ask you what possibilities do foreigners have to start an acting carrer in the U.S. I know many say to start your acting carrer where you already are, but even if you do so, how can one get in the U.S. legally to pursuit their dream job as an actor ? I've been looking up a way on how to get in the U.S. and stay as an actor but everytime it looks like I've found a way then another issue pops up and it's really frustrating. If you know better about this subject please make a video: a more international concerned like vid would be PERFECT and super appreciated. It was a long message but it's very important to me and I'll wait for your reply. You're great keep up the good work !

The way your modeling experience would probably help is that you are probably less nervous on stage or in front of bright lights and a camera. And like you said, you're used to dealing with producers, directors, crew members, etc. As for international actors, I really don't have much experience with that and I don't know much about the immigration process at all so I can't really speak on that topic unfortunately.

Hey Kurt, I have some experience in theatre from when I was younger (I'm 17 now), I've participated in a few plays at school and also outside of school. I also sang live on the radio in Dubai (where I live) because I was invited and participated in different talent competitions, mostly singing. When I was about 10 years old I wrote an entire script with my cousin for a movie we wanted to make. We did, we filmed the movie starring my cousins, other family members, and me. It's a 25-minute movie and it's in Spanish. Do you think any of these things could help me in acting? And also, how could I add these to my resume (if any apply)?
@ActingCareerCenter
@ActingCareerCenter 2 жыл бұрын
Any experience that you've gained can help you in your career. There are no rules to what can and can't help you. As for your resume, the plays and film can definitely go on your resume. Your signing can go under special skills

Hello Kurt, I've been wanting to be an actress all of my life. But due to me having little money, no support system, and personal setbacks, I have next to nothing to show for it. I do have some training and a student film to my credit while majoring in Theatre Arts in Jr. College in the past. But the other projects I try to be a part of in the past didn't work out for one reason or another. With that being said I'm in my 40's I want to move to LA to pursue this, but I feel embarrassed, naked, and unprepared. Despite the fact that I'm in the process of going out for auditions locally. Should I go to LA and continue to pursue this or should I quit while I'm behind and over 40?
@ActingCareerCenter
@ActingCareerCenter 3 жыл бұрын
I would never tell anyone to quit. I started later than most people (at the age of 26) and I know many people that started after 30, 40, and even 50. Here's a video I did on the topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jouYfp-ChqiEqNU Also, LA is one option as far as a location to pursue acting, but by no means is it the only option. Make sure to research other major acting markets like Atlanta, before making a final decision on where to move.
