I have a question about this video though. I realise that you need to take small steps to make it to bigger roles in the future but I am a wheelchair-user and students from student productions or casting directors from short movies seem more hesitant to hire me because of my Disability because they think it'd be a hassle. Even though I did really well in acting school and I've been an extra a couple of times too in some big films. I can't really get bigger speaking roles without the small time experience first but my wheelchair is scaring small time producers away from me, even though I don't think my Disability would be an issue to the bigger producers of more professional films. So I'm kind of stuck. What do I do?

I can actually say that 3 weeks ago I booked my first leading role in an Ultra Low budget SAG film. The only other film that I had worked on prior was a one line speaking role that ended up getting cut from the final cut. Of course I had taken acting classes and had done multiple plays while I was in college. It’s hard to get a Lead role in any sag film but’s it’s doable. Take tons of acting classes , and try to do as many theatrical plays to build your resume. That’s the best advice I could give.

If acting is just about landing a lead role in a Hollywoodmovie and not about the craft of the art I think such a person should take another job… if you love acting and you put all your passion and effort into it you will always be fullfilled and be able to share it with others. @@muktapal8244 hi there! For starters I would recommend getting into classes. I've been taking an On Camera Audition Technique class for almost an entire year straight before I signed with my first agency. Another positive of getting in class is your teacher will most likely tell you when they think you are ready to start submitting to agency's. It's hard to get an agent without much experience, I think the best way to get an agent in the beginning stages are with killer headshots and great training. Hope this helped!

I just wanna thank you Kurt. Your channel was the first I came across about two months ago, when I was wanting to get into acting. I attended an Actors’ Program a month ago. It was a taster for next years 1-year intensive course. The next week, I booked a featured extra role (with some help) and had 3 lines to say. I was a nurse in a mental facility talking to the main actors. What a lucky break! Now, I wanna chase more and keep throwing myself at anything that’s there. New Zealand has a lot of opportunities to act. Just need to find and network with the right people. Thanks Kurt!!

Hi Kurt , I totally understand were you 're coming from. I wish to get a lead role for action movies. I get it , it's not gonna be easy as a beginner and I understand. To me getting a opportunity to audition for any role is already exclusive to me but a LEAD ROLE......that will be very amazing . I'm a huge believer that hard work , dedication , taking your time and slowly work your way up is what will determine who gets a lead role . I wish some day to feature in some of the Hollywood action movies .I'll do as best as I can to work my way up by doing what you said. Thanks for the advice , I'll totally take it.

When I saw the title of this video I was skeptical. Getting lead roles is a very tough thing. Some people come out of school and book them right away. This can be misleading for the actor, and it doesn't really build your esteem as an actor. Being in the trenches builds character. You lay this out very well, Kurt, in a non condescending way. Anyone asking this question is a little out of their depth and doesn't have much experience. You treat them very well. Kudos!

I have written a treatment that I could play a lead in but I'm content with playing the guy who has a building dropped on him if it's good for the final product. *Side note: The funny part is that there's a part that you'd be perfect for and it's in a sub-genre of science fiction. Just need a producer...or to learn how to become one. There's a thought. Thanks for these videos! I've not commented much but I do enjoy them!

Another reason to do the smaller projects? Because they can be fun!!! Even though it's not some major blockbuster production you're going to meet people like yourself who have a passion for it. The positive energy and camaraderie kind of feels like going to summer camp. One time at band camp.... Great to see you back Kurt! For awhile I thought you'd A) been abducted by aliens B) run off and joined the French Foreign Legion (I've heard they have an excellent dental plan) or C) been devoured by a rabid pack of chihuahuas. One or two are safe but you get 50 of them together you'd better have 911 on speed dial while leaping onto a chair.

I live in Hollywood North Vancouver British Columbia Canada, I agree 100% with you and I must say that building a " Network" is the key to getting the experience one needs to gain auditions for lead & principal roles as well as building the necessary film relationship(s) needed for a career, your passion may lead you behind the camera. For me, it started with classes & how to get a demo?... Vancouver has the best cinematography schools on the planet, So ...I made myself available for the school(s) Thesis films, I got the lead roles and from that I edited my demos, between the student & Independent film festivals casting saw my work and started inviting me for lead & principal roles auditions. Today in this City I am a safe investment for casting to request a selftape and call back interview, you may view my IMDB page my success are from people I worked with. keep up the good work Kurt.

Ok 1st -have your agent pull as many strings as possible! They may be best friends with the director, producer or CD..2nd - make sure you fit the character type ( yea this is second not first characters can be rewritten) 3rd -know the role and give a great audition. 4th - lying is perfectly 👌 ok..if they ask ' can you play a guitar' say yes even though you don't and then learn a few chords very quickly!!!!! 5th - just luck, right time right place..😊

While I see your point and totally agree with you Kurt, on the other hand I think that the opposite can also be true. A person can never have any form of acting experience in their life and still do a phenomenal job. There are a few people who play lead roles and do fantastic job and has never even been in a film before or any other form of acting project. Especially rappers and musicians. They at times gets big roles in movie based on their infamy. I belive people can be natural talented and do a very good job.But what your saying is totally correct and it's best if actors get their track records first.

Its a dream of mines to be part of a fantastic four project, specifically in the MCU. Getting a major role in that would be wild.

Gotta start somewhere. Don't dream...do! I took some acting classes in the local Community College. It was a lot of fun! Theater is cool. Nerve-wracking, but cool. Plus you'll make friends. I even wrote a play!

Hello Kurt! First things first, love your channel! You help me a lot to improve my acting and my professionalism as an actor. Second is, I use "Backstage" as a platform to find acting roles. If they only ask for a "video" but don't mention what should the content be, what should I send? Thanks in advance!
