Loving Hollie’s openness in this Action Surge. Feels very relatable to anyone nervous about taking part in a game. Yet neither Hollie or anyone else feels like a weak link. Bring on Ep 3 and more spoons

These post-episode discussion shows are great, I really love getting to hear them dive so deep into their characters and ideas. They really have something special here

Harry is an awesome DM! On one hand, gently guides players (some who are new) in this landscape he created. On the other hand, he pushes them a bit out of their comfort zone (hello landslide) to amazing effect. Also the way all the players roll with the punches! Never would've guessed there were newbies among the group if they didn't tell.

When Harry went into the pre-taped segment with all of the vocal effects, that was freaky. I've never heard any DM do that before... you would think someone would have thought of it sooner.

I can recommend Dimension 20, if you like those types of things. One of the campaigns, Burrow’s End, was DM’d by Aabria Iyengar and she did some amazing things with animated projections and prerecorded messages. You can watch the first episode on KZbin, but the rest is only on Dropout at the moment.

Matt Colville had a guest NPC character that was prerecorded like that. Don't know what Hyper RPG did with Kollok 1991 but I do know that Aabria had a PC roll in that show. Burrow's End was the apex of that idea as far as I have seen. Still Harry employing it here was also incredibly cool.

It's so great to be able to listen to thoughts, insights, feelings of the players after the episode. Everybody sat at that table, deserves to be sat at the table, you are all fantastic! The characters may not have bonded together closely yet, as expected, but the players really do have great chemisty. And Harry loves Morgan so all other opinions are invalid! So there!

I particularly like the miscues. How you can make those little perception of the narrative errors in the moment. When you don't have those pointed out you wonder what players might be thinking. I mean humanoid versus bear. You wouldn't think that would happen but it's one detail in the moment and it's so human for Ben to misread that.

Endellion's/ Hollie's distain for Morgan was so funny to me
@MorinehtarTheBlue

It is a very good point of view/context RP. Morgan is just getting very unlucky but it certainly undermines his competency. And the commentary both speaks to Endellion's character (not very forgiving) but also Hollie's frustration with being saddled with an NPC that is unable to add any utility to the party.

I love everything about this whole crew so far. The episodes have been full-on and really entertaining so far, and these Action Surge discussions are helpful not just to hear what the cast are thinking but also to bring together everything that's happened in 3.5 hours of gameplay for those of us who forget stuff sometimes.

As a longtime player, my favorite person to play with is a new player who wants to play. They're the ones who try the hardest, they're the ones who haven't been, for lack of a better term, tainted by how things should be. This game has been great and that has been one reason I attribute to it.

I really enjoy the Action Surge episodes. I am usually not too interested in these "wrap-up" talks, but for this group I actually find it quite interesting. seeing how you are all finding your footing not only as a group but also within the game/RP as a whole and getting some peeks behind the DM screen & into how Harry sees what's happening in the sessions is exciting.

I’m loving this campaign so far, and I like how we are seeing a bit more of the characters and their interactions and personalities. D and *I* as the chaos gremlins, E as the no nonsense one, K as the chill one, and R as the button pusher. I can’t wait to see if those dynamics change as the players grow more into their characters or if they become more enhanced in those roles. On a side note - looking forward to when they are able to have a minute to breathe and process and the conversations that come up then. Never thought I would see a play through where in the first two episodes the known gods are either dead or mia. It’s brilliant and different and I for one am fully invested in where this story goes. ❤ to all of you! Can’t wait for episode 3!! 🎉🎉

After what happened last time, I was as excited for Action Surge as I was for the mainline episode. I really appreciate sharing the group's time to breathe and talk post-session with us. Also, I'm glad Hollie agreed to join! I'm a complete newbie to D&D and so far Endellion is my favourite character

I love these just as much as the actual play itself. As a DM myself, it hurts to not be able to tell my players things that I want to. Because we aren't doing recorded sessions and have the time to really have these kinds of talks, I've started to end a session a little earlier at certain points in the story to get a gauge of the groups feelings on the game and what they think is going on in the game. I feel like the show would be missing something if it didn't have this after show and I'm thankful the cast is doing this, especially these longer videos.

I'm really liking Action Surge. I honestly wasn't sure I would, but you know what? It reminds me of what I do with my own group. I open the curtains a little bit and show the little man who's pulling all the strings. It's generally something you DON'T do in TTRPGs, but I just love being open and discussing what transpired during the game. According to my friends, they learn a lot by listening to me talk about RPGs with them and these lessons they've taken from my games have shown up in their own. And Harry, yeah, don't feel at all pressured to do tons of episodes in short bursts. It is very difficult. You're not Matt Mercer and I think even Matt sometimes has a hard time with his own campaigns. I know that I need a lot of time as well to come up with the next session based on my players' choices since I really enjoy running story-based games. The world DOES need time to react.

Will any of the clerics of the world have any power if the source of their power (their deity) is dead? And if they find a cleric of one of the missing deities, and that cleric has power, is that confirmation that that deity is still alive?

A fair point on tiers of spells but I don't entirely agree on some those lines of demarcation. For example Message and Sending. One is certainly a higher form of the idea but they actually transcend schools. Message manipulates sound through transmutation but it's still audible and not telepathic. Sending is Evocation and that's where telepathy comes into the equation. The way you talk about Minor Image and Disguise Self (a cross School upgrade with Alter Self) seems like a bit of a nerf to me. Minor Image wouldn't be able to move and you have to choose between sound or and actual image. But size categories go medium 5x5, large 10x10, etc. Which is certainly within the realm of a medium creature let alone a small one such as a kobold. Granted I don't recall the exact moment so maybe I'm misinterpreting what mistake was actually made there. As for Disguise Self versus Alter Self there is a world of difference between making the scars appear to be gone and actually removing them. Especially when it can change your appearance by a foot of height. Or maybe I'm nitpicking or otherwise misconstruing the point you are making there?
@ScottoroYT
@ScottoroYT 3 ай бұрын
The only thing I would disagree with here is Minor Image says you can create a sound or 'image of an object'. So, according to RAW, 'I' wouldn't be able to make an image of another creature with Minor Illusion. Silent Image is the first illusion to specify visual phenomenon, object or creature, so he could have used that.
@MorinehtarTheBlue
@MorinehtarTheBlue 3 ай бұрын
@@ScottoroYT Disagree as you please. For me that's semantics of keywords but I do get what you are saying. In other cases, where you are targeting a spell creature and object make sense as this determines validity. In the case of illusions where you mentally shape the image however it is more like art. Not being able to make a sculpture or painting because the subject is an object versus a creature for example would be ridiculous.
@ScottoroYT

@@MorinehtarTheBlue As a DM I would agree, just because fun is more important than following the rules exactly, but I'm just saying why a DM might rule minor illusion this way, because that's exactly how it works in the book.

Fun fact: the REAL Mt Olympus is in Olympic National Park, along the Pacific Coast of Washington state, USA. Really. You can google it and look at photos and everything. It is a beautiful place, feels like Skyrim but real. When I was there (for work, believe it or not) I half expected a dragon and a unicorn to make an appearance... especially when I stopped at Lake Crescent to enjoy the view for a moment on a misty early-Spring day.

This is the talk back show. They alternate these and the actual campaign. Pros: more time to process and we can dive into behind the details. And some shows hold this kind of thing back as a premium. Cons: Some confusion using the same tine slot especially for those who don't pay attention or aren't getting the news and interaction elements that the show puts out. And that we have to wait every other week for the next installment. Especially if you're impatient or it might kill the campaigns momentum but I'm personally done with all that.
