There is NO better ride on earth to take a date on than the Coney Island Wonder Wheel. Nice and slow, up high, beautiful view, arm around your sweet heart, turn towards them, kiss, & repeat. Those engineers from back in the day knew what they were doing :)

Thanks for the free ride actionkid...yes, great views of the beach..Now, i wish you'd visit Six Flags in Jackson, NJ and take Kingda Ka, Nitro and Drop of Doom rides so that I, at least, can experience the thrill by proxy.. lol Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the post...it really brought back a lot of memories. I haven't been to Coney Island since the late 60's. I wish you were able to see it as it was in the 50's before it hit he skids. Down at the far end where the parachute jump tower is ( this was a ride that was originally at the 1939 Worlds Fair in Flushing Meadow Park ) was Steeplechase Park , an amusement park that had been there since before 1900. In the 50's I rode the same rides that my parents did in the 20's and 30's. by today's standards the rides would be considered to be too dangerous for kids but they sure were exciting. Thanks again.

I used to go here as a child but rarely got on the rides because a few people died on the roller coaster so that was traumatizing enough for the rides. They used to have Astroland in Coney Island but I am not sure if it's still there because I haven't been there in years.

I went on about fifty five years ago (I'm 69), and of course chose the swinging car. Next time, I'll take the stationary car, because it goes much higher. As a lifelong NYC resident, I've been to Coney Island hundreds of times, and recommend it to anyone reading this. If you're visiting NY, take the D train to the last stop, "Stillwell Avenue", for the cost of a subway ride. The ocean is free, as well as admittance to the the park. The rides have become a bit pricy, but worth it.

Both swinging and stationary cars are fun! I prefer stationary though as it goes up higher and makes for a better picture.

@@ActionKid - But I think that the Osmo is still not enough competition for the Hero7. The only advantage may be that it may not be so much warmed by. It will be better to use especially in the sun. And there is also a prob with the HDR setting. That's an important thing in my opinion. The Ferris wheel does two rotations.

There are 8 stationary (white) gondolas, one of which he's riding on here in this video. Those gondolas stay at the perimeter of the wheel and give you a traditional ferris wheel ride, taking you to the very top. The other 16 gondolas are a MUCH different story. They are on tracks, similar to a roller coaster, and slide back and forth as the wheel turns from the inner wheel towards the outer wheel. Catching unsuspecting riders off guard and giving you the impression that you were going to fall off the ride all together. It's a MUST ride, as both deliver a very different ride than the other.
