NYC & Long Island's Shared Neighborhoods | Walking Floral Park & Bellerose

I walk through the communities of Floral Park & Bellerose in New York. These areas are located both in New York City's borough of Queens and the neighboring Nassau County, Long Island. These are the only areas that I am aware of that share a name in both NYC and Nassau County. I start off at Little Neck Parkway, and then make my way to the Bellerose LIRR stop. From there, I walk to the Village of Floral Park, and then head back to the Queens border.

The whole area was NYC/ LI. It’s Jericho Tpke and across I Jamaica Avenue. Used to be a bowling alley where Staples is. On the north side, there was a diner that closed because it was the NYC side, but the wing place was open because it was Nassau side. There used to be an ice cream place called Frozen Cup. It’s now a motel.

It's interesting you brought that up. I was also curious why the NYC side wasn't Jamaica Avenue in the signage. It turns out the portion after the Cross Island Parkway to 257th Street was renamed Jericho Turnpike from Jamaica Avenue to queel confusion! qns.com/2005/05/jamaica-ave-soon-to-be-jericho-tpk/

I grew up on the NYC side. Trying to explain the border was always a laugh like you are showing. Took the city buses to school. You go underneath the station to get there.

Another great video , border crossings as the viewer looks intreating to me as well , explorations to the counties !! Nice neighborhoods and calming walk , what else can people want 🤔! Luckily those two runaway dogs found their way back home , especially that cute pomeranian which you had to ” chase ” so called ! You and that helpful woman were a blessing in the sky for the owner !! Thank you A K for this entertaining video 👍!!!

Thanks for another great vid AK. I've been out of NY for 30 years (lived in Nassau), one way I could tell if I was in Nassau or queens while driving, the roads were pretty smooth in Nassau, but once you crossed into Queens, they were VERY bumpy. That may have changed over the years, but back then it was a stark difference.

I can understand with the bumpy road surfaces! I think that's changed now, NYC has been pretty proactive in repairing the streets sooner.

The pomeranian is so cute, and I'm glad the dogs made it back home safely! 😃 I enjoyed seeing the beautiful homes in Bellerose Village. The fun part was crossing the LIRR underpass and you ended up in Floral Park with more beautiful homes and shops. 49:44 & 1:04:40 Love the brick architecture structures! 😍🧱 The borders are always confusing but fun to see. 😂 Thank you for sharing this relaxing and informative walk in Bellerose and Floral Park, AK! 🤗

Back in the Day Queens was a part of L.I. People would say Brooklyn and Long Island( check the map; Brooklyn is also on L.I.) I would ride the L.I.R.R. from Mineola( usually )on a locomotive and "change at Jamaica" cuz they switched to electric. At this time L.I.R.R. was a part of Pennsylvania RR as was Greyhound Bus. Back then Greyhound had its own terminal in Penn Station all the other bus companies were in Port Authority Terminal ( built late 1940s or early 1950s(?) Would sometimes drive into the city on Jericho Tpke or Hillside Ave. Last time I was out in this area was 1950s. At that time Floral Parkers went to Sewanaka HS.

I left out no matter who says what Long Island is Brooklyn that first a city itself kings county queens nassau Suffolk Long Island is maybe 118 miles long I will no longer use city transit bus subway crime with our open southern borders worst usa presidentwhite house immigrants thousands coming usa illegals will we still remain usa or what we have mucho government city state town federal county village. Mucho for same things laws needed is one law strictly enforced not one person caught 100x before jail if at all what good are gun laws one person buys it for others like school shooter Connecticut state new town or fl pk village village mom for son she then drives him around to shoot out home and car windows
