When I lived in Georgetown WDC back in the early 70's we would sometimes take the bus to Manhattan for the weekend. I dont remember the area, but it was well known at the time for it's gay night clubs. It was also known for it's arts, caffe's, shops, galleries and restaurants. At night, it was like Disney Land for adults and we loved it. I never saw any sort of violence, just people having a good time all night long. I really miss those days.
