Created a panel finally just need to adjust it and make sure it's all good and functioning before busting my wall to run all wires to mount it nicely on the wall with power cord hidden. Thanks for your lessons. I have an important question. Perhaps for you can help.. As I understand it, I need to choose only one system to start (i want samsung smart things zigbee), so that the network is stronger or better? What network do YOU recommend? Z-wave or Zigbee? Samsung Zigbee devices are they're significantly more reliable or not? if i choose zigbee then i should always stay in it (build and expand)? or is it better to develop two systems at once? is it better to have 30 zigbee or 15 zwave and 15 zigbee?

Tune-up your network - As you add smart devices, the topology of your network changes. There are several things you can do to improve the communication between your smart devices and hub: ________________________Z-Wave devices do not automatically look for new “parents.” Once a device picks a parent, it will hold on to it until it cannot talk to it any more, even if a different parent is added to the network that would be a better choice. To make sure your Z-Wave devices are routing optimally, look for a “Repair Z-Wave Network” command in the software for your hub. ________________________You can force a ZigBee device to pair with a better parent by turning off your hub, and leaving it off for up to 10 minutes so the device loses communication with its former parent (the hub). After you turn back on the power to your hub, your ZigBee devices will find better parents (if they exist).

Another great video Taylor, question for the calendar is there a way to have it sync with your cellphone calendar or is it just a standard calendar. Just finished doing my tiles and its awesome.

With the Actiontiles built in Media Tile generator, I don't think you can sync it up that way. But there may be a way to use Google calendar and find a .jpg or .gif from the online Google calendar app. I'll check into it!

Great video! Is there a way to have the screen sleep and wake when I walk by? Edit: I found the Kiosk app and it works okay. But why does my fav panel not start up when opened? It does on my phone but on the tablet it does not...

So after seeing your video I went and got a Smartthings hub. I have Philip's Hue, Nest and Google Homes around the whole house. With the hue lights is there a way to combine lights? For instance some of my ceiling fans have 3 or more hue lights but it wants to add them all individually.

Chad Brun I use Segled lights and I created a virtual switch to turn on or shut them all at once. You would need to keep your switch in the on position unless you you have a connected wall switch.

Helfpul video. Off topic, did you print your wall mounts out yourself or purchase them online? It looks more seamless than the one i have with the slot in the end you have to slide the tablet through. Also, I'm assuming you're still running mostly fire tablets?

I sure have! I've been testing it out and it works great. There will be a video in the future regarding the app. The AT developers say that the app is not quite finalized yet.

I would ask on the Actiontiles forums. They're quick to respond on there. I would guess not for a while since it's based on fully kiosk browser which is Android only. It has too many features iOS doesn't support

I apologies Andrew, I am having a noob experience trying to get ActionTiles to work with Blue Iris. I have a Amcrest mini dome POE camera and followed the ActionTiles Media URL entry, (also used on Google Chrome and Internet Explorer URL address line), and I get error 404 Not Found. I used this URL below with and without the letter ‘e’ in video.mjpg portion of the URL but I still get error 404 not found. What am I doing wrong or is something perhaps not configured correctly within Blue Iris? The ActionTiles Media URL entry is: 192.168.233.1:1086/mjpg/front_porch/video.mjpeg?user=myusername&pw=mypassword Thanks Andrew.

Thank you much Andrew. On your demo video in the Blue Iris camera Media example, you blurred out the section of the URL example where the user and password goes. Should I assume the blurred out portion to be something like this including the user -->, user=username&password=password.... Thank you.

Not at this time - and, if ever, it will be very limited. News sites do not just let you "steal" their feeds for embedding in any arbitrary web page. They have cross-site protections in place. Then there are various technical limitations due to the formatting. ActionTiles isn't a portal into any arbitrary video or website - it's just "very lucky" that still images and GIFs work well in some scenarios, as demonstrated.

It's an ender-3. I'm pretty new to printing, so I don't plan on doing anything yet. If I find a good correlation with it to smart home stuff, I'm sure I'll feature it from time to time.

With your wired sensors you can use those sensors with smartthings using something called konnected.io. you with your sensors into the konnected system and that will allow you to see them in Smartthings. From there you can use ActionTiles.

Blue Iris is a PC based security software, correct? Does it only support ip cameras?

Blue Iris is a PC based software, yes. It supports ONVIF, RTSP, and other local protocols. I'm not expert with it, but if the camera supports RTSP or ONVIF, it will work with blue iris.

Yes it is easy. Just make sure to expose the Harmony Activity to smart things as a device, then expose to action tiles. I am using action tiles in my home theater. Biggest pain in the butt is that Harmony will not expose any of their device commands directly so you need to make stupid activities for simple things like pause or eject. That is Harmony’s problem though.

It will update as the source updates it (for example, when ABC updates the .jpg for that URL, it will update in ActionTiles.

Be sure to set a "refresh interval" in the Media definition. For weather, for example, 600 seconds is plenty... even 900, or 1200.

This looks great but I think the new Google home hub will make this obsolete in a year or 2. Yes this is way more customizable but way to wonky looking. Looks like Windows 3.1 before windows 95. I'm sold and am trying the trial version, but $28 and have only do all the work? I have the home hub and it's great, they are going to be $99 for black Friday 2018. P.S. don't use fox news when making youtube videos, anyone watching would automatically think you are closed minded and tune you out. Keep up the great videos
