I have started a Gofund me to help aid some of the families on the island of Siargao during the blackout who don’t have access to clean water and goods that are becoming too expensive to afford anymore. Due to businesses having to raise prices to keep up with the costs of running generators to run their businesses. You are definitely changing my impression of the Philippines. I love the quieter, small towns and single track roads. You comment that every day you meet lovely friendly trustworthy people, but I imagine that they experience you in the exact same way. And isn't it ironic that now matter where you go, you end up off grid!

She might be wearing some rose colored glasses and it might be she's in small towns where there's less stress. In the big cities, there's a lot of creepy people that'd stalk single women or they'd be trying to rip off tourist and pick your pockets any chance they get. Be on the look out, there's people of all kinds out there.

Here's an adventure for you if you have the time: while in the area, hop to Camiguin Isld. Go down the coast by bus from Surigao to Balingoan and take the ferry to Camiguin, hike the active volcano. Much less tourists while still accessible. Then you can continue via Cagayan de Oro to exit Mindanao. Definitely try scuba diving in the Philippines, the reefs are prime spots, much better than learning in a pool.

So glad you are enjoying life in the Philippines. I am a PR from Canada. Charging the phone is pretty easy. Most malls have backup gens so power can be easy to get.. I usually go to my local Starbucks in the mall.

Didn't realize you were half Asian! Everything you feel that you're saying (and things you might not be but I know) is what I felt when I went to Korea for the first time in 2016. I'm half Korean and never went until well into my adulthood and my god. I never felt so relieved, happy and not tense. I feel like if I lived there that might eventually go away so I think visiting is great to get rid of some everyday stresses.

When you travel like a Tourist, you end up always getting ripped-off by the greedy crooks. If you travel like you were a local, you always get treated the best. You meet so many wonderful people. You end with the best memories that other travelers never experience. I’m 73 years old and spent 26 years in the US Navy. I’ve been around the world a couple of times. I try to eat and live like the local people and help them with various issues whenever I can by leaving medium quantities of money, so that they find it after I’ve left.
