Penny still exists at some level but Q truly is gone. The show was deep to explore the avenues after death. Everyone on a different plain or level, but he walked through the gate to the underworld to exist in something that we could never compregend but can mever eturn feom. So it really was heart wrenching. I dont think the ppl who created this show knew how big it was going to get and the following of fans it cultivated.

Oh gosh! I cried so hard when he died and then again when they sang Take on Me and he watched from the afterlife with Penny 40, especially when Eliot starts singing.. Gosh and the season where the monster had Eliot's body and Eliot let Q know he was still in there with the peaches and plums. This whole series had moments where I cried my eyes out!!!

Wow. The Magicians brought me here. RIP Quentin. What an incredibly fleshed out character. You can tell that it was the perfect time to go by how heartbreaking it was to see it happen. I love that he asked himself that one deep question at the end. It was really important to SEE someone being that honest with themselves. His story wrapped up beautifully and I'm always going to be a little bit torn about the show moving on past him...

@Zardoz You can tell Eliot was devastated. He was recovering so he likely couldn't properly convey it but think about it. Eliot's biggest regret of his life was running away when Quentin wanted to start a relationship with him. While he was trapped in his mind, he came to the conclusion that he truly loved Quentin. Then when his friend SUCCEEDS in saving his life, he recovers in the hospital to hear that not only is Quentin dead, but he will never see him again. There wasn't even a body to bury.

So I got all emotional with the finale of Magicians. I got to know Magicians in a street bookstore when I was in a really bad phase of my life, and the books really helped me understand that I had depression and that I could keep living besides that fact, Q's story showed me this on the books and on the series. The last question he asked himself was so deep for me that I can't even describe it. All this just to say thank you Lev Grossman for your story, thank you Q for your fight. (And thank ya Active Child your music is just incridible !)

It would have been alot better if he got to interact with them like when he steped forward and penny 40 stopped him. It would have been even more sad if he got to say his goodbyes to all of his friends and of course Eliot. That one would be the best of course. But thats not real life. We always think the main character is safe and wont be killled off or die. But in real life 'Nobody is safe'.

I have been attached to characters in series before and I become sad when they die. But when Q died I started to cry, it's like watching a piece of myself die.
