That did it. I made up my mind. I am becoming a PREMIUM member. I was hesitating because of the BB King and Eric Clapton videos. But the choice of Lonnie Johnson definitely makes the deal. @Brian, if you can teach me how to play Lonnie Johnson, you are definitely the teacher I've been looking for.

Wow! Thank you so much for giving me Lonnie. Your 'tribute' is spot on. Just for flavor, the lightbulbs you always talk about came from listening to the album you highlighted. I had to navigate back here to thank you. So, thank you. Sincerely.

Tuned in tonight and come to hear you refer to Lonnie the man Johnson......he has always been my elite country blues musician......his instrumentals......Blues in G among others.....are just so classy compared to all the other giants of that early blues era.....not to put any of the other pickers down......Lonnie seemed to be in a class by himself.....tasty picking fo sure !!!

BB King mentions Lonnie Johnson as one of his early idols :) I love when you do "in the style of" lessons like this, Brian, you're really good at nailing their sound and showing us how it's done. And yes, you got that guitar on Reverb in 2019 (EP319) 😉

It always amazed me to hear his "Playing with the strings". I did cover his "Another night to cry" in my blues shows, but that is as far as I got in his style. I love this course!! Thank you.

This is such a great lesson thank you, Brian. For anyone wondering if it's worth it to become a premium member, I would like to encourage you to join. I also belong to TrueFire (which is great), but Brian's lessons are so well focused and never fail to give me something I can actually play.

Great lesson on Lonnie Johnson's style! A few years back I picked up one of those Gibson 1941 SJ100 reissues in mahogany. Great guitar, and Lonnie is the model's most legendary player. Think I'll give this an acoustic go-around on the j100. Thanks for another fantastic session!

I've been a big Lonnie Johnson fan ever since I heard his music years ago. (plenty of good stuff on KZbin) To me Lonnie was the first guy to use solo runs, and one string riffs mixed in with Jazz/Blues chords... In England Anthony James Donegan changed his name to Lonnie and tried to do the "Lonnie Johnson thing," but it came out Skiffle, which started the British Rock explosion. Love the Kay ! I use to own a blond value leader with three pickups. Wish I still had that guitar. Cheers!

To me, Lonnie is the guitar virtuoso of the 20s and 30s. He dramatically changed his sound when he started playing electric and with a flat pick. The stuf in this lesson doesn't sound like Lonnie much so I presume this lesson is about latterday Lonnie. Acoustic fingerstyle Lonnie was awesome, latterday Lonnie is a letdown by comparison.
