Here's a short feedback on how watching ASP frequently for about one year has totally had an effect on me: Just a few days ago a drunken strong guy threatened me and wanted to escalate a situation just out of nowhere because he was on coke or something. Instantly I could see all ASP videos I've ever watched before my inner eye fly by within a second to estimate the escalation potential and possible negative consequences so I decided to stop my ego tell him what he wanted to hear and walked away. Best decision. Saved my day, my money, my health and my freedom.

Just for context I shot my old level 3 safariland Kevlar vest (expired 20 years) with a 9mm, 40sw, 38spl, and a 44mag. The vest stopped all of these bullets. I later shot the back panel 5 times with a compound bow using a target arrow. Every attempt the arrow past completely through the vest like it was cardboard. A bow and arrow is a serious threat. Don't trust your concealable body armor thinking you will be protected, it won't stop an arrow.

They were in very good control of the situation, and the compound bow is actually pretty scary. Being as quiet as it is, there is no telling if he could have killed one of the officers if he wasn't in their line of sight. I'm unsure if regular level 3a kevlar, assuming that is what they were wearing, would stop something like an arrow. As a person that has served in several law enforcement capacities, I can state confidently: While a secure mental health facility may be in this man's future, simply dumping him in a run-of-the-mill prison or jail is not going to serve society at all, IMHO. Without 24/7/365 qualified psychiatric care, this man will live a tortured existence that will be inhumane for him and every other person with whom he comes into contact: staff, treatment team, security personnel and/or friends and family. Lastly, anyone that is afflicted with such a severe condition isn't "choosing" to be non-compliant in the medication process. Non-compliance is a part of the illness.

So glad to have found this channel. These officers were the ultimate professionals. I hope they received praise instead of grief from the community. I hope this man gets the mental health treatment he obviously needs in a way that protects the community from him going off his meds again. My lay opinion is that psych meds treat the symptoms of mental illness and make you feel like you’re okay, but they don’t cure the underlying “stinking thinking” so psych patients are always at risk of going off their meds. That means society is always at risk from those patients. We’re going to have to spend the money to keep ourselves safe.

As an ER nurse in a large city with a huge homeless population we see A TON of psych patients compared to other ERs (especially after multiple psychiatric facilities closed a couple years ago)… most people only see videos like this but believe me we as a whole probably see 100s of cases every week where these mental illness warrants turn out well. But the perp/patient still gets a say (I’ve had a suicidal patient attempt to grab an officers gun in the hospital, thankfully the gun stayed in the holster bc the officer and myself went hands on with the guy to take him down but mental illness is no joke. Regardless the officers did what had to be done AND the guy lived. Good job to them.

@savagejx12 жыл бұрын
A question I have in this situation: Do you think the shot was purposefully aimed at the shoulder since the officer knew the threat only had one shot? If so, right decision in this case? Only one shot, upper torso according to the article, ended threat peacefully and the perp went to the hospital with a non life-threatening wound. Hard to imagine a 5.56 at Mach F'You passing between lungs, heart, and spine without it being considered a life-threatening wound. To note, I'm not averse to deadly force vs deadly force. Dude had a compound bow with a hunting tip.

A couple years ago I was in a car accident, had head trauma and now have permanent mood issues. The doctors put me on a lose dose of meds. One day I left it in the car, it was below zero and I was already in bed and didn't wanna go get them. I woke up bright eyed and full of energy. I couldn't believe I felt that good. Well, I was feeling so good that day I forgot to take it for the second day in a row. Day 3 i was STILL feeling great and I was able to get up in the morning and was loving it! So I decided I didn't need the meds anymore. A couple weeks in I started having intrusive thoughts, suicide ideations etc. Those are tough days man. The headaches were murderous, i was having withdrawals and didn't know it yet. I had all the detox symptoms, it was awful. 3 weeks in we figured it out but I was already greater than half way thru detoxing from nearly everything we could read. Turns out I was only a couple days away from finishing up the detox/withdrawals. After that I had a couple good days but I think they were only good bc I didn't feel sick, but I felt good. After that I was a total head case. I needed to get back on the meds and I did. The things is, those couple days right after I mistakenly stopped taking the meds were so incredible that I truly believed I didn't need them anymore. When I was several days into that detox and didn't realize what was happening to me I got in a yelling match with my dad, got into verbal fight at work, nearly stomped some teenage into the ground for flipping me off when driving( it was his fault though lol), was wrecklessy driving endangering those with me and around me and practiced shooting myself. I was on a low dose of meds and still am. I can't imagine what it must be like coming off the heavy-duty meds and high doses. Since all this happened to me, I don't ever wanna find out what I could do to someone if I'm off them again. I'm never coming off them. If you're on meds, just take them. Believe me, it's not worth stopping.

Yeah. A lot of people really need to realize that. Police aren't willing to die, just so someone's mentally ill kid can get help. If they know their kid is violent, chances are they're going to be even more violent when total strangers come in the picture, telling them what to do.

A single shot worked well especially since wielding a bow requires a lot more abilities than holding a gun. A bow takes 2 hands and requires you to have the space and ability to pull back on the arrow before it can fire. Very hard to near impossible to do laying down.

I hunt with a bow and 25 yards with a bow that's set up and practiced on is easy to get on target. The bow training I had suggested limiting shots out to 40 yards which I agree with. I practiced some out to 50 yards. This was an absolute deadly threat to LE.
