I just don't get why this obsession with the radio isn't trained out of our police. I'm a pilot and it's pounded in our head that the radio is last when it comes to an emergency, with cops it seems the radio is first. Once the first shots fired goes out, throw away the radio in a gun fight.

Can't believe what I heard @ 4:17. The second officer tell someone that he could see the suspect and that he was reloading his weapon. If you are in the position to see a guy who just shot at you and your partner, you should be putting well placed rounds down range on the suspect.

The suspect was against the buildings. You can not shoot and miss and have bullets go through the walls into an apartment with innocent people inside. Someone inside could get killed. I had the same thought as you, why didn't he shoot? Then realized they can't take a chance of shooting someone in the apartment. Edit: These officers didn't seem well trained. All those patrol cars and officers and no one could stop him. All their ammo probably would have went through the walls and not the suspect.

I live in sac and a few months ago we were outside and a man was walking down the road on my street and he started beating his dog, one of the neighbors told him to stop and the guy pulled out a gun and shot him like it was nothing. To me it's clear that the guy was already in the mindset of hurting someone. SSD was on it though and apprehended the guy before he left the block. I appreciate the officers especially in my area, they have a hard job and they do it well. They also take the time to get to know our community . The second officer was too scared “where’d he go” guy. He was placed perfectly to take the suspect out. Edit: basically, he just saw where his partner was shooting at. He shouldn’t be asking that question. He should have his eyes on the suspects location. There’s only one exit for the suspect. Hiding behind the cruiser, imo, gives the suspect time to ambush the officers. Reminds me of the officers who got into that terrible fight with a suspect wielding some type of rifle. The suspect flanked the officers and if it wasn’t for a gun jam, they would have died.

You know you're not gonna even come close to winning. There's just to many of them and only one of you. Common sense has gone out the window for the average criminal. It goes "aviate, navigate, communicate" it means 1st you need to control your plane, then you need to situate yourself and see where you're going and what you going to do, then you talk. Based on the video I would say I am a very similar height/weight to the first officer in this video. The biggest difference between us is I am not putting on a badge and a gun every morning and going out to fulfill an oath I took to protect and serve my community. While I do agree with John that this officers weight didn't really effect the final outcome of this one situation, I think it is absolutely preposterous that his department would allow him to be in the field in that kind of physical condition. It's Sacramento, also known as NorCal and I'm sure there's some union rule protecting this cop from getting into shape. Honestly he's a liability. Imagine if he had been shot and gone down, instead of one of his fellow cops pulling him to safety he'd need two maybe three cops going into harms away to help him and becoming slow targets as they try to drag him out of danger. If he doesn't do it for himself or his family, he should do it for his brothers and sisters that wear the badge.

"I see him! He's reloading." Uh, maybe this is your chance to take out a DEADLY THREAT!!! If he can see him and can tell what he's doing, you'd think maybe he'd take a shot or two? His radio use pissed me off too. The guy has already fired on an Officer, and this guy is playing narrator. The second Officer might have ended this quickly if he didn't hide behind his cruiser and actually aimed at the stairs, where his buddy said the threat was. This has to be a training issue.

Then…I see him he’s reloading, then I can’t see him anymore, and finally the best of all…let’s back out of here! He should have posted up off of his rear quarter panel and engaged the suspect as soon as he rounded the corner at the bottom of the stairs. If he missed then he could have backed around to the other side of his vehicle. But he didn’t so he definitely should have engaged him when he was reloading. And if he’s fellow officer said he was OK he should have gave chase. I hope this officer has found a new line of work. Gone are the days of I was a police officer for 30 years and never pulled my weapon out of its holster. We live in a time that you should expect to have to pull your weapon at some point in your career if not multiple times and know beforehand that you be able to take the shot.
