@Harry Engel Wyatt Cheng is one of the lead Directors of Diablo Immortal which is the free-to-play mobile version of Diablo. During BlizzCon 2018, everyone was extremely hyped for a new Diablo game after years of waiting. @Harry Engel Its basically an event where the winner of a Hearthstone tournament didn't receive his winning prize due to speaking out as Pro Hong Kong. (Which is a movement about Hong Kong trying to keep its Democratic rule from Britain. The rule was supposed to end in 2050 and then they will have to be absorbed back to China with its totalitarian government. But China began to reinforce these forces way too early than its expected.) And he got banned by Blizzard from his comments, most likely due to Activision•Blizzard not censoring his comments means that as a company they side with Hong Kong, and thus they will be removed from the Chinese market. And Activision always follows the money. So they side with China in this one

@Harry Engel wait, I got mixed up! Chug was a pro Hearthstone player from Hong Kong! During his live stream of winning a huge tournament he put on a “Free Hong Kong” as part of the protest. There isn't one thing that Blizz has done in the past 3 years that has made them respected or endeared by their fans, and they have bled a massive about of talent to start ups and to Riot which is just on the other side of town.

Honestly, Activision is sort of like the worse aspects of Nintendo, Microsoft, and EA combined. They could gives less than a shit about their fans (Nintendo treats their fans by essentially ripping them off at every turn). They also abandon franchises for various reasons (Microsoft is getting better at not doing this, but they seem to be the company most infamous for abandoning franchises, even if it isn’t for money like in Activisions case). They also embody most of EA with shady business practices, micro transactions, and franchise abandonment. @@flumpledorf Actually out of all these companies, I’m the biggest fan of Nintendo (I own a Wii U for corn sake), so I think I know what I’m talking about when I say they rip off their fans. You seriously think I should pay 60 dollars for a Wii port with small changes and buy an amiibo for 25 dollars not scalped just to experience the full game? 85 dollars for a 10+ year old game, give me a break. The online is garbage, the ways they give us to play old content is almost non existent or very limited, and club Nintendo doesn’t even exist anymore. I’m sorry, but you’re kind of ignorant (not stupid, just ignorant). Even Activision provides better ways to play their classic games with the crash and Spyro remasters. I’m not even comparing the quality of the games to these other companies, not once did I say that their games are bad (Nintendo’s games are usually always good so there’s that), but Nintendo has an abundance of anti-consumer practices that are hard to get behind from someone who not only likes quality games, but also quality service.

@@wh4221 I know what you mean. I also own a Wii U. Yes there may be some small stuff that can be dumb but if you don’t want to buy Skyward Sword then you don’t have to. You already own a Wii U so just get the Wii version there for 20 dollars. I don’t know what game you are talking about that you bought for 85 dollars but then just don’t buy it. If you are talking about 3D all stars then you got scammed. Also if you own a Wii U (or even a 3ds) then you can already play most if not all of the retro Nintendo games you could ever want. Many of this games are just for one dollar. While yes their online service is garbage, it is the cheapest and already gives you tons of NES and SNES games for free. If you want to play game and watch games then just get a ds collection on the 3ds eshop or get one of the newer game and watch systems for the anniversaries. And yes I know that Club Nintendo shut down years ago and that My Nintendo is significantly worse. At least Nintendo has been trying to put some more physical stuff on the service. I can see why some people might not like them a ton but they know how to capture nostalgia which Microsoft and Sony either don’t know how or can do at all. They keep their prices for the consoles down to draw in customers and games up because they have nothing to hold up the company if their video games completely fail. They have had the best selling console for 2.5 years because of what they do. I know they do some stuff that is very bad for consumers but so do Microsoft and Sony. I stay away from Sony completely (because ew) and really just play Nintendo and keep up with Microsoft. They both do some dumb stuff because they are large companies that can crash and burn if too many things go wrong. If you want more info then please allow me to direct you to CGP Grey’s videos; ‘Death and Dynasties’ and ‘The Rules for Rulers’. Yes these are mainly talking about governments and other political bodies, but Grey acknowledges that this also applies to large companies. The benefit or positive side of computer games is a tough thing to argue for, to begin with. I was briefly a game developer in early 2000s. The hours were long. The game we made was not that fun. It published and I have credits but quite frankly it published because it had to. It was a launch title for the original xbox. The people I worked with were mostly jerks. Half of the people who worked on the game were let go after the launch. The whole thing was just not fun. The whole computer game industry thing, I think, has had the soul sucked out of it. Arcade games were fun in the 80's because if they were not, the coins would stop flowing instantly. Perhaps that's what is needed. A way of making games where the player gets it for free up front and pays a little each time they play it, a very small amount, less than $0.25. Something where either you pay now play later, or play now pay later. That would put pressure on studios to make games that are actually fun.

Unfortunately, this is what happens when you try to mass produce art. It takes a lot of people a lot of time to make a game these days. Those people need to be supported during the process. Because of unlawful government laws surrounding how companies are created and managed, which ties in to the unlawful 16th Amendment, it's necessary for artists to work under the umbrella of a corporation. Basically, the government created "laws" which, as it turns out, are against the law, in order to make money off of the people. So now you have to have people with business degrees, and whatever degree they make up to tie into that sort of thing, who live to take advantage of everything they can in order to make the most money possible out of other peoples' ideas and work coming in and taking charge. Which is why most corporate heads are sociopaths. (Not kidding. A study was done.) This right here is what ultimately kills art. Video games have always been a form of art. I'm an artist and programmer myself. Once those business people take control of art they try to find ways to streamline production and maximize profits. 100% of the time this destroys the artistic mind of the employees, and ushers in the standard negative corporate-related mindset. Like in the Bob's Burgers episode where the kids start up a company for a class. Everything was going great until the corporate side of the process destroyed the artistic side of the process. We get into making games for the fun of it; it's highly enjoyable to those of us who do it. The mental destruction of the corporate mindset will never be good for art. However, it's an absolute must if you're to be able to live off of your art. There has to be a middle ground. I'm all for bringing back arcades, and even bringing about an arcade-style of home gaming. Though the latter part has already been done in some cases (Ace Combat Infinity, for instance), it hasn't yet been done to perfection. Unfortunately, it will never be truly achievable so long as the 16th Amendment is in place. When we can strip away the largest parts of the financial bullshit the government inflicts upon everyone, it'll be easier to accomplish. Take away that stress, and we could eventually have game developers who once again can have fun at work all the way up to retirement, and not just for a few years before some asshole comes in, buys the place, and ruins it all. I hate to throw in politics, but those idiots ruin everything you can find from sea to shining sea. And it's still a valid point. On one hand, it's a good thing that the government can have the ability to be able to tell corporate leaders that they can't treat people like disposable trash, and if they do they get fined and potentially lose their ability to operate. On the other, it sucks because they can get greedy and put incredible financial strains upon businesses one way or another. There's a saying in the military; shit rolls downhill. Someone at the top says, "Let's get stupid because it benefits me." The stupidity and the strain ends up almost entirely on the little guy who has to work 80-90 hour weeks in order to "make it happen". It's the biggest joy-sucker ever. The depression is real. Real bad. When sociopaths are in control, there is no joy. By definition they don't care about people, and it's felt by everyone who works for them. But people need to eat, so they put up with it. There's a simple fix for it. But we're not at Ghana or South Africa-level yet, so it isn't going to happen for another year or two. We'll get back on track. At least I hope we will. And gaming will once again be enjoyable from concept to final product.

Activision seems to handle their employee relations much worse than EA, so for that reason I rationally apply more vitriol to Activision. But on a personal level, I like SSX more than I like Tony Hawk games, which I still like quite a lot. A new(ish) Tony Hawk game was released last year. The last SSX game was released in 2012. So again, personal level, I kinda hate EA more for subjecting me to watching their summer event every year hoping for some SSX, Burnout, NBA Street, Skate or Mirror's Edge title to be announced only to leave in abject self-inflicted disappointment. Both can burn and have their IPs auctioned off to indies in a perfect world.

I will say they are up against a wildly different industry, where games are more expensive to produce while the price of them remain relatively unchanged. So you ended up spending more money for the charecters than you did for the game. So it's kinda like physical microtransactions that are essential to winning the game. I loved playing the games but my parents hated paying paying for them.

Honestly you missed way too much stuffs about them: layoff on the best performing year and getting bonus from it, destroying Blizzard from the inside (one of the most beloved companies), etc.

I can’t stay mad at Activision when they do right with their dormant IPs. But even those good games were tainted. The Spyro Reignited Trilogy was sort of rushed considering Spyro 3’s glitches, although some were patched from what I heard. Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled got micro-transactions after reviews of the game praised it so highly, which makes them look extra predatory. In order to release Call of Duty Warzone by the end of the year, seven developers are all supporting it including Beenox and Toys for Bob from those remakes. I can understand that last one if it’s temporary, but that’s a scary ordeal if that’s what’s needed to sustain yearly releases. SEVEN Developers.

Most of the infocom games were released on iOS and required you to pay extra for maps and hints. It was handled by Code Mystics. When the iPads and iPhones updated their software, the apps required an update as well. Code Mystics stated they would have been happy to do the update, but never got the OK from Activision who never even responded to the request. About $40 dropped on an app that is no longer usable.

It's their greed and ways to squeeze as many money out of you as they possibly can. They use disgusting psychology tricks to keep you addicted and spending money on useless pieces of pixels that you throw away the next release. They ruined Call of Duty because they moved the focus to micro transactions instead of making the game experience better. But this has evil arts in common with them.
