We have to acknowledge Cillian's parents who raised a smart, kind and creative son. Cillian speaks about how " normal" his upbringing has been. Thank goodness he did. Cillian is a self regulated actor who has his priorities straight, do the work, stay away from tbe hype, go home to Ireland and stay grounded. Shine on Cillian. This is a valuable conversation.

Great idea. Good to teach boundaries and empathy. It's important to inow how to stop others harming you or encroaching on you. So that's it's not just about being 'nice'.

Fascinating listen! EMPATHY sounds a marvelous program... emphasizing the very thing that's needed in our often splintered world. It was especially interesting to hear Cillian Murphy's views on empathy, just following his profound performance as J Robert Oppenheimer... a man who had great empathy for the victims of the nuclear threat science unleashed on the world. My dance company is a member of UNESCO CID & we strive to encourage creativity & cultural accessibility (esp in underserved communities) so I'm grateful to have come upon this valuable educational discussion. Encouraging EMPATHY in Ireland for spiritual & emotional growth... Bravo & I hope this much-needed education thrives! Suzanne Winland, Pointillism Jazz Consort, Washington DC

There is a science to empathy. Neuroscience, I'm thinking there is a connection, going to research this. Thank you for sharing.

at 3:44 Of course Cillian Murphy nails the idea of empathy and how it is needed in order to work as an actor.

I think some people are born with a lot of empathy and some are not, but teaching it is such a great concept. I think empathy should start being taught in elementary school and continue through secondary school though, and be taught all over the world. The world could be nearly perfect if more people just followed the Golden Rule. It helps if you have parents who are sensitive, kindhearted and weren’t abused as children themselves. Children learn what they live.

But actually he's wrong. Tommy is empathetic but with select people.

@@fvulpe9503 thanks for the reply! I was wondering whether he was referring to Tommy Shelby or Oppenheimer but you're right, "cold hearted killer" makes more sense for Tommy I was surprised because I think both are complex and captivating in their own way, which makes them paradoxically relatable so I agree with you, Tommy Shelby isn't all dark.
