I was bummed that I graduated from YSU the next year, I don't even remember who gave the speech at mine. I come back to watch this once in a while whenever I feel a little down and unsure where life is leading me. This never fails to lift my spirits. I've shared it with many friends and co-workers, and they too appreciate Ed's message in it.

Ed O'Neil,a great example that hard work will get you everywhere.
@_nicetunes27908 ай бұрын
That's not what he said: Work hard. And if it doesn't work out go down swinging. A very important addition, because his message is: Hard work can open up chances, but it does not guarantee success. A very humble and empathic statement of a guy that doesn't suffer from survivors bias like so many other stars who think it was only the hard work that brought them there. There's always an incredible amount of luck involved as well.

This clip has been floating around on my homepage for a while. I always ignored it. Today is the first time I watched it all the way through. I’m VERY glad i did. Mr. O’Neill kept it honest, real, and straight to the point. He’s just a regular joe who worked hard and in a series of good luck and timing became a successful actor.

Being from Ohio myself it brings feelings of great PRIDE when I see someone else from my "HOME STATE" make it in life. Or when I happen to meet someone that is from Ohio in the place I am living now (Las Vegas, Nevada) because I know what I'll get from that person (hard work, great attitude, a great and sincere friend, someone who would literally give you the shirt off their backs if they had to) because of how we are raised. You are taught that three things matter most 1) Your Family, 2) Your Friends, 3) Your job. They are all intertwined at some point and make you what you are. Congratulations Mr. O'Neill. You are truly deserving.

i'm gratefull to have seen the show here in Indonesia way back in the 90s when i was a kid..it really is a great reminder of how things were, where mostly everything was uncertain yet life was enjoyable..yes those were the days. where people are not that easy to be offended, where even a sinicall jokes was comprehended as gracefull inputs(dont know how that happended it just did), it was a real life situation where nothing is perfect yet how people reacts to it with big heartedly seem the norm..and then..came the millenials(i am one) i'm so thankfull to my dad to have had let me watch the show(my mother didnt know any english anyway). now i can see that even for just a glimps of moment..i can go back in time memorizing the not so good old society yet filled with enough amount of joyfulness thanks Oneil thanks Al Bundy thanks for the entire show production thanks dad
