Namjoon (RM) said that the "girl" in the lyrics is "friend(s)" when he first write the song but girl is more perfect to be used in the lyrics so they go to use girl. So yeah.. you are right with thinking that this is more than romantic feelings. It is more of friendship and self. You will know more as you dive deeper in the story. For the next video (Prologue), it's better to watch the video with english subs and by means of that, not from their official site. The video from the official site has no subs and the ending part was cut. I will not spoil you but to give you a heads up, the last part is really important so make sure to finish until the end of the video. Just a fact about this MV: It was filmed when they still weren't big and didn't have enough money to hire actors who can act with them and to buy props (like cars) for their MVs. At that time, they used the cars of their managers. And the people who beat up Jungkook are their managers. This song also holds a lot of big memories for them as this is their stepping stone. They won their first music award show after two years of their debut. They won several awards because of this song. And this song was named as one of the song that defines the decade by Billboard. I read somewhere... (Army-zip or BTS Diary maybe), that the lyrics started out as 'I Need You Friend' which would perfectly match the video. But 'friend' was changed to 'girl' for the commercial value, which was a good choice considering that the fan base at the time was mostly young teen girls. (That has very obviously changed - dramatically). Remember as you enter the Bangtan Universe that it is a dystopian alternate universe that can be a pretty dark place. Please be aware that the characters have nothing to do with the real lives of the band members. I don't know why they gave them their real names but these characters seem to have the exact opposite personalities and family backgrounds of the members who play them. The situations it uncovers are real life problems that some kids face but shown in the extreme. And there is an element of the 'Twilight Zone' here as well. Have a nice adventure. 🙆‍♀️💜🇺🇸a

Yeah the word "friend" didn't flow right, so they changed it. But they definitely meant it as friend.

No spoilers but things you should know: The songs really aren't part of the BU, it's the music videos that are important. I didn't want you to follow analyzing lyrics. Lastly, pairings will always be important so pay attention to that always. You are correct about girl. It was a placeholder, RM said it fit the flow of the song but they like to try and make their lyrics genderless. AND I SAW THOSE SWEET SWEET DANCE MOVES AND.....I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE AN ACTOR! I strongly disagree with this that the lyrics aren't connected to the BU when they definitely are. They just usually have a double meaning. (Spoilers somewhat past this point please don't read Cedric!!!) But for example Stigma is about Vs guilt for what he did to his father and is him apologizing for it for his actions but him doing that puts his sister in danger of being alone for him going to prison while the songs meaning to Taehyung is his guilt for his siblings not knowing who he was when he returned home since he left home when they were still very young. Same goes for every solo song on Wings. They have their personal meanings to the members but they still very much connect with the story. I NEED U in itself lyrics are them being angry and sadness with their situations and how they need one another to survive.

@@kcjones5532 We don't know what Stigma means to Tae, that is supposition. The solo songs lyrics add nothing to the stories. You get the meaning you need to understand the BU from the films, even if I give to you that THOSE songs might have meaning. Same with I Need U. We don't need the song to tell us that, the video does and because that is not universal with ALL the songs, it is better to ignore all the songs. Because the videos do the best job conveying what you need to know for the BU. In fact analyzing the songs had some reactors way off the mark because you CAN interpret the songs many ways.

This was so shocking back in 2015! And then when we realized there was a story...!!! And then having to wait months between the MVs. Eventually we worked together to try to figure it out. We had Theory Thursdays where people from all over the world got together online to throw in ideas. It was such a fun time, and I still have friends that I met back then.

Please understand I need you era was Big Hit last big effort to save Bts and the company from bankruptcy since NO era didn’t do so well. One of their best eras were filmed on a budget. They even used their managers as extras instead of hiring actors (they were the ones beating up Jungkook) and later on using managers cars for filming. They saved and budgeted yet created a masterpiece. 💜💜💜

The ending made this video! I love them all, but for me, Jimin and Suga have special places in my heart. The first time I saw BTS was the Blood Sweat & Tears dance practice and Jimin's dancing made me search for more BTS. He sucked me in and made me an ARMY. Thank you Jimin. Suga revealed his vulnerable side when he spoke about his mental health issues. I particularly love The Last. I can relate to social anxiety so that is why he holds a special place in my heart. He is always thinking about ARMY and what he can do to help with his words. I had a difficult time with the storyline. But after watching all the videos, I found a video (I want to say by xCeleste) that explains it well. But don't look for it until you are done. Hey ! Finally ! I couldn't wait to see you starting with the storyline, I think it's the right moment for you as you know them well enough ^^ I love seeing people who have knowledge in cinematography reacting to the BU storyline, they catch so much more than other people, and as I loved your reactions since the beginning, this journey will be so interesting ^^ I'm glad you pointed out their acting, because they always impressed me a lot on that. It's not easy to play such intense scenes without making it too much, and loosing the realism of it. Or to play really suddle scens but still keeping the emotions. But they did amazing for the whole storyline ^^ Also the only thing is about the lyrics, you were right, at first the "girl" was not supposed to be there, in the first place they wanted to say "friend" but it didn't sound as good so they replaced it. Also, the lyrics of the songs don't really match with the storyline, personally I see it more like an OST, it can go well with it, but it's in the video that they are telling the story, not the song. I knew the wait was worth it! I won’t spoil anything and you got most of the main important aspects of the story to this point anyway. There are 2 things I want to point out. 1. I absolutely adore the way THE scene is composed with happy scenes cutting in between such an impactful moment. I’m glad you pointed it out because it’s the scene that sells this plot for me. And yes the flowers is a motif for Jin. He holds 6 petals. 2. This story isn’t in 3 acts, it’s in 4. They follow a traditional Asian storytelling of 4 acts. It’s introduction, development, twist, and conclusion. It sounds similar to 3acts, and it’s storytelling so it is similar in many ways, but it has differences. Main one being that it’s not a conflict driven storytelling technique. Act 1 establishes the character, act 2 is basically setting because it’s how these characters interact with their environment, act 3 is the twist which could be called a conflict, act 4 is what the characters do with this new element. They made it clear this was the style they were following with the highlight reels, which you’ll get to eventually. They’re each named after these 4 stages. RM also explained they followed that style in their story of the album series Love Yourself, specifically in Love Yourself: Answer each rapline solo marks the change for a new Act with Jin’s Epiphany (that’s his solo song for LY era) as the only solo in the Resolution side. The best example I can give you to fully understand this storytelling style is the movie Parasite. I think you mentioned it in one of your videos. Watch it again with this in mind, that’s in 4 arcs, not 3, and you’ll understand it a lot better.

@@QueensThief76455 no problem. Most westerns don’t know this, and we obviously tend to analyze the story based on the structures we know. I’m a former English teacher and a BU theorist and it wasn’t until I found the meaning behind the titles of the Highlight Reels and Euphoria (the MV of Euphoria is Wonder, which is a way of calling the 4th act) and later explained better in RM’s Vlive on LY: Answer that I understood the story structure better. It also helps to understand Parasite lol. It’s why most people think Parasite feels like 2 movies. Act 3 introduces the conflict, which happens way into the plot, instead of at the beginning as normal 3 Act structure does. I won’t explain the BU’s structure pattern, at this point that’d be a mayor spoiler.

Loved this reaction. XD Your reveal at the end cracked me up. I also like the unique perspective we get from you as an actor and filmmaker, which was why I was dying for you to do the storyline! NO SPOILERS! I just wanted to confirm some things you pointed out (good job at noticing some things!) and reiterate them so that you remember going forward. Jin with flowers IS important. (Count the number of petals. ;) ) Jin weirdly apart from the others is also important. Jin is important. Lol. The fact that Jungkook did not fight back when he was getting beat up is a good catch and is significant. You are also the only reactor who has ever noticed the way Jungkook was balancing on the wall as he walked alone and then the other boys ran past him. I personally think that was pretty symbolic. I would not say the lyrics of the songs are *completely* separate from the storyline. There are some songs in which the lyrics are definitely at least partially connected (like with Butterfly in the On Stage Prologue), but the visuals are absolutely key to following the storyline. They sneak a looooot of stuff in there. Make sure you watch an On Stage Prologue with English subtitles!! (V's acting is INCREDIBLE in it, btw)

I love your reactions so much. This video had me on a roller coaster the first time I watched it. I couldn't help but feel the pain they were going through behind closed doors and how they just kind of let it go when they were all together. This whole storyline is amazing. Also Jimin is an amazing person! Good choice on a bias. My main bias/ultimate bias is Yoongi (Suga) but Hobi/ J Hope, Namjoon/RM and Tae/V are in my "Bias Line". Jimin is one of my biggest bias wreckers though if not the biggest. (Lately Jin and JK have been wrecking me alot)

I'll say it again: I love watching your reactions and your choices of what to react to. This is one of my favorite songs of BTS, along with Blood Sweat and Tears and Fake Love. These are the top of my youtube list. The storyline can be really interesting if you invest time and effort into it, but it can be confusing if you do not gather all the pieces from here and there, as it is not all unraveled in the MVs (which are twenty something and have a sequence btw). There is also the webtoon Save Me, the notes in the BTS albums that continue giving clues about the story, and other concept clips and stuff. If you decide to go down that hole, I hope you enjoy it like we did.
