I think 1967 was the peak point of purchasing power for the American dollar. It was never stronger. America's middle class will never see that much prosperity again. Not to be mean, but he pissed it away.

Joe in 1965 average rent was 175-200 a month for a 2 bedroom apartment in SF, if he maintained that rent for 55 years then he’s only spent $132,000 in that time. Meanwhile most people who buy in now will pay that much in 2 years.

Blame the state for raising taxes, electricity, water, sewer, garbage, etc adding more and more expensive regulations, limiting amount rent can be raised, adding fees to materials and services. The only way rent can be raised enough to cover rising costs is to kick out the current tenant and get a new one. No housing provider wants to do that, it add expense and much risk. But they are forced to do it because of the greedy heartless state.

The problems in this world are only getting worse. Wake up.

Secondly, i believe the move-out fees for evicting tenants are currently $55,000 per legal tenant, so he and his wife will be fine.. they just probably wont be living in the city they love :( My friends rented an illegal basement unit for 10 years and the city forced the building owner to relocate them... the owner settled with them for $225,000 which they turned around and used for a down payment on a small condo... no joke!!

I get why people rent a place, if you are new to an area you rent until you get settled in, or you rent when you are going to school, or you rent while you are looking for a place or you rent after you fell on hard times and trying to get your credit back in order. I rented for 6 months when my Mom lost her house, it was a ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT for $500 MORE than my house payment is now and now I have a yard and few more bedrooms. Often home ownership is cheaper than renting. I have a garage now, before I had to pay for parking at a local parking lot as well. Renting sucked. When I was renting I couldn’t work on my own cars so I had to pay a me mechanic. It made everything cost more.

The strategy of the Lees is to move in for Sox months as is required by law and rent the place for an exorbitantly high price. I have seen that strategy play out all the time. The renters can do nothing about it. People have right to their property but not to their rented place.

@nepalidude 5 жыл бұрын
@ltlblugrl If people are moving in for real to maintain residence in their rental property, that's okay, but if they are moving in for the sake of exhausting six-month residence required by law or ordinance, that's just manipulating the system and taking undie advantage at the expense of long term renters like this actor. We all know that there are people out there who take advantage of loopholes in the system and looks like the Lees are doing just about the same.

I think it's sad this old man has to start all over somewhere else at his age. He will probably never recover from it. On the other hand I also think property owners should have the right to control their property within the law.

He's probably been a starving actor all his life. Those small roles don't pay much more than what would cover a couple of months rent.

Should've done what the Broadway actors in NYC do. Promote affordable housing and get on the list to live in those housing units meant for those who can't pay rent and pay a fraction of the markets rent. $$$

My dad bought a duplex on Church st in the early 1970s for $22k. He also bought a 2bd 1ba house in sunnyside in the 70s with high interest rates and his mortgage was $450 per month. He did this on a construction workers salary.

10k offered by one tech company for employees to leave. Move tech to Detroit. So imagine if the Tech Companie (s) offered 50 K to go to Detroit. Then Chicago would want a piece of the action and the patchwork of gangs would dissapear. Wildfire has proved that it can visit mini Dresdens on Cali. There is a sign on Virginia Street that says Support the Squad. 17.5 Californians will be the ideal number if mean sea level rises more. Yet today at the hq of that Coffee Chain I saw an Academic who felt ENTITLED to drive a Black Yukon by himself. Lots of new cars, lots of credit card debt. I watched the dot coms leave. Uhaul franchises were not able to keep up with demand. So take the pressure off the housing market the values drop. Bus Drivers will no longer have to live in RVs at VTA mtn view div 2. Then go after FB and busy up that monopoly and put the arrogant Zuck in his place. The sooner the better. Then the giant ATM machine that greased NO LEGACY 44 will change the political landscape of Norcal. Look under your doormat Nancy. If your constituency looks like gangrene, then your seat in the house is vacant until you clean it up.

Well if San Francisco did sell to Chinese from China there wouldn't be this issue. If your not a city you shouldn't be able to own just like in China

People didn't think about real estate as a income generating investment back in those days for all of you know it alls. Housing prices didn't appreciate the way they do today. People generally got a 30 year mortgage and paid on it for thirty years. They ended up paying three times the purchase price of the house in principal and interest and the house might be worth 50-100% than what they paid for it. So those if you saying you would be wealthy real estate investors in his position, you simply don't know what you're talking about about.
