I get why people rent a place, if you are new to an area you rent until you get settled in, or you rent when you are going to school, or you rent while you are looking for a place or you rent after you fell on hard times and trying to get your credit back in order. I rented for 6 months when my Mom lost her house, it was a ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT for $500 MORE than my house payment is now and now I have a yard and few more bedrooms. Often home ownership is cheaper than renting. I have a garage now, before I had to pay for parking at a local parking lot as well. Renting sucked. When I was renting I couldn’t work on my own cars so I had to pay a me mechanic. It made everything cost more.

People didn't think about real estate as a income generating investment back in those days for all of you know it alls. Housing prices didn't appreciate the way they do today. People generally got a 30 year mortgage and paid on it for thirty years. They ended up paying three times the purchase price of the house in principal and interest and the house might be worth 50-100% than what they paid for it. So those if you saying you would be wealthy real estate investors in his position, you simply don't know what you're talking about about.
