Actors in MMI/Medical Interview - How to respond appropriately

Just a quick question; how would you go about greeting this individual? is a extended hand for a handshake too robotic for the scenario? comforting arm too inappropriate? or do you simply just sit beside them and start talking? and what would be your opening line in a sense?

I would go close to the person, comforting hand is completely fine. When you walk in introduce yourself to the examiner, then they will direct you to the actor. I would introduce myself, "Hey I'm Tom, xxxx (title), what's going on?" Easy going and let the actor guide you.

so your saying hand on shoulder while introducing yourself with title etc and asking what's wrong would be seen as an acceptable response?

No, I'd be close but maybe an arm's length away and you can put an arm on the shoulder to console the person where appropriate.

Hi Koala, I am not sure that I got your email. I apologise that it has been so long. Were you doing September or March ? In general, i would reccomend getting into a course if you are not sure about what to do, it is much to difficult to navigate it all yourself without prior insight. Maybe reforward the email to [e-mail] and we can take the discussion there.
