Michael J Fox was actually offered the role first, but filming schedules for family ties meant he had to turn it down. When it became obvious that stoltz didn't have the right chemistry or comedic aptitude required for the role. MJF worked his butt off to make it work, and the rest is history.

I never understood why TH thought he was expecting such a raise by playing a secondary character...was RDJr the cause? Maybe, but indirectly...the movie became such a hit and being the main character it is logical he would get a huge raise so logically the producers were going to want to "minimize" the financial burden by refusing a secondary actor demanding such a big raise.
@occheermommy
@occheermommy 3 ай бұрын
@@editek5992 yes you are right that he shouldn’t have expected a big raise since he wasn’t the star but he probably should have gotten some raise. From the stories I have heard, which are rumors, he was a jerk on set and in general and they really wanted to be shot of him, so they offered him a low rate and hoped he would quit. He basically said he was insulted and quit which is why they hired Don Cheadle. IDK if they gave him more than they offered Howard or not. I just saw a preview a month or so ago for a movie on I think Peacock that they are both in. I was surprised that they would work together after this. I would have loved to be a fly on that wall during filming.

The video did just what it was meant to do then. The videos were released by his lawyers to sway public opinion to his side. The jury made the decision based on the nuances of the law. Sometimes it isnt black and white (no pun intended there). The law has many grey areas and juries are supposed to be educated on these during the process so they know what to look for. Based on this I have to agree with the jury. I am not saying she was pure victim. I think she was to blame in some of the situations but I also think he did things he shouldn’t have.

The jury felt otherwise. As we are not fully aware of all evidence in the case and your thoughts are based on what his lawyers released to the media to make him look innocent, we should go with what the jury decided. Im not trying to be rude, I just have watched stuff with the case from the beginning and I know the video evidence is difficult to read. When people are on juries they are told but the judge and the lawyers what they should be looking at particularly and the nuances of the law. There are many nuances of the law that I believe caused the decision. I do think she was drunk and did stupid shit but when he picked her up and put her back into the car, that is illegal because it is stopping her free will, you dont have the right to stop someone from going where they want but pushing or moving or holding them in place unless it is for their own safety like if they were walking into traffic. The cars around her were stopped, so he had no reason to put her back into the car. It is stuff like this that we as citizens may not know but the judge and lawyers have to spell out to the jury. I am not saying you are wrong about her attitude, just that there are nuances to the law and the jury probably got it correct based on those.

@@occheermommy G's, lady. "Nuance"? All right. I've said this before. We teach our children rules that they may grow to live under law. We teach our children fairness that they may grow to live under justice. But rules are not law, fairness is not justice and we are not children. The law is often wrong. Never mind that access to the legal system is, more than ever, "How much justice can you afford?" Never mind that justice is a different standard from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Never mind the legalized rapacity of the divorce courts, tax courts and asset seizure. Just look at all of the outdated junk that clots the law. Politicians constantly promise and brag about "new laws". In the meantime, LA can't build economical housing. San Francisco can't build even kiosks to spare the homeless from having to drop deuces in the street. The law needs more constant gardeners and fewer builders of the Tower of Babel. And maybe one less career sacrificed to the chorus of squealing wheels on the courthouse steps.
@occheermommy
@occheermommy 4 ай бұрын
@@stephenlayland2889 while I do mot disagree with you in that we need better solutions for the citizens of our country, and some laws are outdated and just plain wrong, I do think in this case it is a just law. If you stop someone from leaving a situation, what is to stop you from holding them back so you can hurt them in some way. The law is there for a reason. He broke that law. And as far as your “how much justice can you afford?” Comment, he actually would have been in a far better place to pay for better attorneys than her. She is a choreographer or makeup artist I believe. He was an up and coming star that had just appeared in 2 huge movies. (Ant Man and Creed2). He was making a lot of money and had a nice penthouse apartment to go with it. The bottom line is he was found guilty and should have been, regardless of what you think she did wrong. Abuse has a lot of psychological issues involved and it’s not uncommon for victims of abuse to chase after their abuser later, or bail them out of jail. It is a cycle of abuse. Her chasing him doesnt absolve him of his crimes.

You can't blame the makers of the movie. Hundreds, maybe thousands of people are involved in making a movie. You can't risk a film to bomb because of a controversial (possibly guilty as far as they knew) lead actor. It could cost people's jobs. Example (but no scandal involved): Carolco Pictures came to and end after Cutthroat Island.

There is also Gig Young who was slated to play the “Jim” in Blazing Saddles. He showed up too drunk to play the role that Gene Wilder took over. Young was known for his alcoholic tendencies.

@ not my schtick I only know the Terrance once cause he’s still salty. That RDJ didn’t jeopardize his standing after people went to bat for him. And sold Terrance saw was dollar signs. Good riddance to him. RDJ deserved a better friend.

Cheadle makes a far better Rhodes than Howard. If rumors are to be believed he was a bit of a diva and was basically pushed out via the money offered to him. IDK if it’s true but thats what the rumor mill says. In the end it was a better casting.
