LEONIN I get a castlevania vibe, its so darn good. tbh most video game music is amazing, I get more feels from vgm then modern bands out there. and that's saying something

Jenovas Witnesses 〈Nova〉 yes, man! I feel the same...well, we are a brazilian rock band an dwe try to put some video game vibes in our music, like our instrumental song called "Sonho Vívido"...check it out on our channel if you please :D
@Rising_Light8 жыл бұрын
Jenovas Witnesses 〈Nova〉 That's because old vgm knew they were limited on technology. They knew you'd be essentially listening to bleeps and bloops time and time again playing a level, so they made sure the tune was as fundamental and catchy as it could be. The focus was good, quality music amd melody as opposed to pizzazz. That's why it's so timeless, and can be translated to so many different styles of music.
@Rising_Light8 жыл бұрын
LEONIN You're right. I (unfortunately) never even played this game, but this is beautiful. Heard the original game version and this is an amazing take on it.

If you have the patience for it despite its age, it is definitely worth a play, it is in the top 5 games of all time in my opinion. And the only true god game I have ever played. The game, especially the world sim parts, are brimming with emotion and memorable moments. Entire magnificent games could be based on individual sections of it.

bloodsling I totally agree. I prefer the first Actraiser by far. The simulation parts were a good idea to mix up the pure Hack'n Slay. And if you don't like the simulation, you could always play the Action-Mode. Thats what I call great game design. I wish the second one would also had this option.
@doomster70611 жыл бұрын
Actraiser 2 is also way too slow. The action scenes in Actraiser are fast and badass, a great contrast to the sim scenes. Actraiser 2 however, moved at a snails pace compared to the first and ditched the great sim scenes altogether. I wish I could like Actraiser 2, but it's just such a letdown and does not even come close to the original.

The town building would always be the same though, you could not fail, ever, nor would anything ever be different everytime you played it. So in some sense it didn't bring anything at all, except the fact that as if it feels that you are building it. I've played both and must say I prefer the 2nd quite a bit more, but obviously also love this one.

Ah, gotcha! Yeah I was surprised Actraiser 2 didn't have the town/RPG parts. They could have made an entire game kind of like SimCity just from those parts! Actraiser also has *amazing* graphics for the time -- it was one of the first SNES games. I think, after Super Mario World, it was the first SNES game I saw in Nintendo Power before the SNES came out. I was pretty amazed.

@daveincognito Yeah, while I do like this rendition of it, I'd prefer to hear a faster version with organ, slap bass, and maybe some double-kicks thrown in :-p There are a few Actraiser/Actraiser 2 tunes I could envision being "metalled up" a little.

I am a big fan of orchestras and arrangements for video games. I do not care too much for chiptune or MIDI-sequenced music, as I find them overrated due to nostalgia. I recently attended the Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy concert in Atlanta, Georgia (earlier this year). It is the second time I attended a Final Fantasy concert. I previously attended the Dear Friends: Music from Final Fantasy concert in the same venue six years ago.

That genre actually emerged around the same time as the nintendo golden age. You already had a lot of weird stuff going on in Japanese pop- and subculture back then. If you ask me its exactly the ability to take that exuberant imagination and turn it into a final product that made so many great things come out of Japan. Nowadays it's all so sterile and pandering. At least the hentai tentacle rape gore anime wasnt as boring as many contemporary anime are.

I don't really get this arrangement. Why don't they just give the lead to an actual organ? It has that perfect neo-baroque "Bach chorale on steroids" atmosphere you find in some of the better SNES soundracks (super castlevania IV anyone??). Of course the organ was an obvious choice for the original soundtrack since well, the organ was pretty much the early modern version of MIDI... But I've had dreams about this being performed with an actual church organ! Come on!!
