I love Shen’s character and the whole concept of a villain so desperately wanting to prove themselves and flee from their own foretold destiny. In the end, Shen didn’t die a the hands of a panda, but himself. A warrior in black and white

It's amazing how this movie can make a peacock of all animals so scary. I've always considered Lord Shen the closest thing DreamWorks has to Scar, Disney's best villain. He's cold, calculating, his past directly ties in with the protagonist's, and there's so much depth to his character, plus Gary Oldman's performance is impeccable. I also love Po's struggle to find his true self and inner peace, and that "Po Finds the Truth" sequence in the panda village is so beautiful, yet so heartbreaking.

31:24 - A little detail I absolutely love is when Shen closes his eyes as his weapon falls on him. He was absolutely shocked seeing Po deflect his cannonballs, and seeing Po turn into the Yin and Yang symbol and seeing his own creation that resulted from continuing down the dark path, which was foretold, come down on him, he accepted his fate. It's small but makes the antagonist much more compelling in my eyes.

Okay, but really wholesome. This may seem like a small detail, but Mr. Ping making knowing (or learning how) to make Tofu dishes is actually a bit of a callback to what he told Po in the first movie of how he wanted to run away to learn how to make Tofu, and not doing so because he thought it was a "stupid dream." However (most likely), being inspired by his son in achieving his own dreams, he finally took it upon himself to learn how to make Tofu, and even renames his restaurant to "Dragon Warrior Noodles and Tofu." I just love the father/son dynamic between Mr. Ping and Po, its really just too wholesome (and their reunion scene in the end really made my cry.)

One of the things I love the most is how with the final confrontation between shen and po on the destroyed boat, po doesn’t actually hurt shen, he just dodged his attacks and even holds shen so he doesn’t fall. He knows that even though shen is very evil, it’s all just because of his parental issues, if po was able to hold him off for long enough and if the canon didn’t fall shen could’ve calmed down and maybe even realised that po is right
@kannakamui95849 ай бұрын
i mean i only somewhat doubt that since po did technically try to give him a chance and shen was at his lowest point but he still chose to attack

Lord Shen was the best villain out of all dreamworks alongside with Kai, Death, Tai Lung.. i never imagine an elegant and peaceful animal will be part of something so terrifying and also so arrogant and very narcissistic and tough..

Oh man. That SCENE where Po remembers what happens to his village. I cry and get goosebumps EVERYTIME. It's masterful storytelling and the score is perfect. The flip between 2D and 3D and settling into 3D as he accepts the reality of his trauma???? And the friendship between Tigeress and Po??? It's so GOOD. Man, this movie is SLEPT ON. Fantastic villain that's both funny and terrifying yet...you understand him. Lord Shen and the Soothsayer's relationship also makes sense in context of the movie as well with the added lore bit of knowing that she was his nanny. Honestly it's a 10/10 movie for me.

Sorry I just. love this movie. God, the color story. The way Lord Shen is constantly bathed in red for his rage and the more unhinged he is, the more red lighting there is in the scene. They do it with Po too! While Po questions himself he is always in blues and greens but when he steps into his confidence and power, the scene showers him in golden light. And Po is constantly given golden accents from his golden reflection in the Dragon Scroll in the first film to his redirected cannonfire with golden sparks. Just. I LOVE TOUCHES LIKE THIS.

The bird call they use for Shen is actually just a peacock call, and it's just really lucky they have a haunting call like that for the sake of the film. A neighbor of my great aunt had a flock of them. It was this small midwestern farming town of 400 people and there were just peacocks wandering around so I heard them all the time.

@@kannakamui9584 I respect that's how you feel but I disagree. While there was no personal connection between Po and Kai, (Just as there wasn't much personal connection between Po and Tai Lung. Truly, only Lord Shen had the closest connection to Po in being his antagonist.) Tai Lung and Shen are both great villains, tho I like Shen a bit more. They both have similar issues to Po in regards to self-identity, parental issues, and other things, but they split in how they choose to handle it. They could've made both just super evil, but especially w Shen they took the time to really show the audience how much pain he is in and that's why he's doing what he's doing. Every villain is the hero in their own story.

Fun Fact: Panda's are incredibly stupid. No really, they are. Panda's are supposed to be omnivores like most other bear species as while they can filter out most of the toxins from bamboo, that toxic food still affects them resulting in pandas just being high.. all the time, especially with the lacky nutrients, minerals and energy from the food choice causing them to need to eat so much, so often that they don't even have time to do much else bar eat, poop and sleep.. Hence why breeding pairs need to be basically in isolation and fed healthy cake so their only activity choices involve doing the deed otherwise they'd go extinct. Bonus point.. they even evolved to have a thumb that doesn't bend, so it is basically just a hunk of bone acting as a wedge to help hold the bamboo. Koala x Sloth anyone? Really slow and sleepy like a sloth and the dietary choices of a koala.
