It's incredible how Kung Fu Panda always brings the right messages to those who watch it. You can be a baker, a postman or the Dragon Warrior, but without that, who are you?Po understood this and so can teach others, just as Oogway taught. I loved the pandas, the little Tigress fan was my favorite and I absolutely loved The Mighty Double Dad Defense. Kai was without a doubt my favorite villain and his similarities to the Ghost of Sparta are amazing.

I know a lot of people consider this movie the weakest of the trilogy, but I say it's still amazing. J.K. Simmons is incredible as General Kai and his villain theme goes so hard. I love Po's struggle to become a teacher and master chi, and the climax is truly epic.

I really love the Kung Fu Panda trilogy. I read that the 4th film is gonna be the start of a new trilogy, so I’m pretty excited about that.

When you really think about it, oogway was the one who actually betrayed Kai. They were both warlords obsessed with power. It was only after the pandas helped oogway did he make a change.

I always feel weird admitting that I feel culture stunted as a white American. While I grew up with people just like me, I don't know much about my root culture. And while I say I'm Irish, English, Polish, Italian, and so much more, I know nothing about any of those countries. This is why I have gone on a research crazy to better understand my family and those pieces of culture I missed out on from generations ago.

You know, Kai's arc is actually genius. He is basically an entire dark reflection for Po's journey these three movies. Kai and Po technically sought power as a means to survive in a world, but Po was able to decipher that true power is only shown if it is believed in and truly felt if you know what I mean. They both also suffer from the past and Po got away from it by moving to a present while Kai was so busy continuing his PAST path that he couldn't see a present. Kai and Po now come back to find a new identity and master their spirit, but Kai does it by harming people and doesn't form any connections, Po does and actually masters chi. In theory, Kai is the main antagonist of this whole franchise given that Oogway CREATED the Dragon Warrior legend because he knew that the Dragon Warrior would not suffer Kai's arc despite their similarities and would use it for good of the universe.

That's actually a brilliant observation. Kai only saw the elements of body, mind, and spirit as sources of power to further his warlord goals, not caring about the significance or importance of them, whereas Po did. I've always loved Kai and considered him worthy of standing alongside Tai Lung and Shen, even if I like him the least of the three (only slightly). While I still hold that opinion, your observation of Kai essentially being an anti-Po across the themes of the entire trilogy, instead of just this movie like I originally thought, really helps in connecting the two characters and adding depth to Kai that I didn't see before. I'd also like to mention that Kai trying to destroy Oogway's legacy is a polar opposite to Po learning to teach and spread wisdom to others. Kai is taking knowledge away while Po is giving it, further supporting your anti-Po observation.

With no spoilers, KFP4 is more like an epilogue. It still has a solid story and characters. But it does it in such a way tht doesn't override 3's happy ending, which can be VERY tough to do!

I never thought about it from Oogway's perspective like that. I guess I didn't really think of him as a character and more as the wise grandfather figure. I absolutely agree with your assessment. I would make absolute sense for Oogway to pick Po. He probably had no idea what he was about to do until he saw Po falling. That is why he is so cheerful. He had been given this wonderful gift just in time. Again.

Second gen. My Colombian mom didn't raise me with a lot of our culture until close to her death despite me begging to know more my whole life. My dad wasn't great with other cultures and felt we were just AMERICANS despite...no we very much had differences between us and the other all white kids. This movie hurts in me a special way cause I WISHED my dad was more accepting and allowed us to learn Spanish as kids. Or that my mother was strong enough to override him. Idk. This movie gets me in my feels.

I get the impression that a lot of people consider this one to be a weaker movie because of the previous movie's outstanding performance by Gary Oldman as Shen... and, to a certain degree because they felt like the chi journey and not being sure of who he was... was already addressed in his journey for inner peace. I very firmly don't agree with that take on this movie. Yes, in the second one, he came to terms with the pain that he felt about being the only panda and dealing with the trigger of encountering Lord Shen, but it wasn't the total view of who he was. It was learning to let go of the pain that... he didn't even know that he carried. This one is far more... him taking the next steps, truly taking charge of his self-identity, and embracing the true power within. And, honestly, this is one that always hits like a ton of bricks for me on an emotional level, even just watching your reaction to it. I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as you did!

I remember seeing this at the movies back in high school and it was a very great film. Kai wasn't exactly my favorite villain, but he was so badass. This is how you do a franchise properly. KF 2 is my most favorite one, Po vs Shen was really personal and the story was amazing, world exploration and all, KF 3 is awesome too the Panda village and Po becoming Dragon warrior and finally succeeding Oogway. Btw you can do KF Legends of Awesomeness series explains so many lores and back stories happens between events of KF 1 and KF 3

I don't know if this is on purpose but knowing Kung Fu Panda it might be...but the fact that the pandas didn’t know how to do chi anymore after a near genocide....... feels very like "pieces of culture lost to conquerors" which as a person with Indigenous heritage of a tribe in South America that in the 1000's when we used to be millions....... Awesome reaction, this is my favourite KFP movie certainly the most underrated don't get why most rate it as the weakest? With people calling the 4th film a disappointment I'm happy 3 is getting more appreciation now. That opening battle between Oogway and Kai is mind blowing, the spirit realm is breathtaking, the Panda village is delightful. The Stripy Baby Panda is adorable and Po fully completes his journey here as Dragon Warrior!

1. I always wonder how Oogway, Tai Lung, and Kai were all still alive in the spirit realm. Oogway looked like he was dying according to the atmosphere in the first film. Granted it would be a peaceful, painless way to die. When I saw the third film, I thought Oogway still being alive was bullshit. As for Tai Lung, I keep wondering if Po killed him. For years, I believed the Wuxi Finger Hold had killed people especially just by the flex of a single pinky. Looked like some sort of bomb went off. As for Kai, if he didn’t die before when Oogway sent him to the spirit realm, he most likely would’ve died when Po gave him his chi. If Kai and Tai Lung were really still alive despite being in the spirit realm, then, the only villain that had died was Lord Shen. 2. I cannot believe you cried at this film, too. I thought the second one was the only one you would break to. 3. All I know bout Columbia is that’s where cocaine comes from. 4. Li Shang will be in the fourth film. 5. In case, you ain’t heard yet, the fourth film came out last Friday. 6. When I first heard 4 was coming out, rumor had it, Tai Lung, Shen, and Kai were all gonna be brought back. Not a spoiler since that part was already announced months ago.

i don't think they're meant to be alive, in asian cultures afterlife often depicted as either spirit realm or nothingness as two options where you can go. People who were spiritually lost and weren't at peace with themselves would end up in this nothing realm, which essentially means they disappear and stop existing. Shen not being seen in spirit realm could mean his soul doesn't exist anymore. I assumed before the same for both kai and tai lung
